I honestly wouldn't mind Soundwave being an updated CD/Tape Deck player. Have Rumble and Frenzy as tapes, and Ravage, Laserbeak and Buzzsaw as CDs...pipedream? Yeah, I know:(

    Possibilities include:
Newer-style microcassette recorder, with tapes semi-compatible with the original Soundwave & Blaster

    CD Player, with disc minions.

Digital audio player, with (probably meatier than real ones) memory card minions.

Handheld game machine with cartridge or UMD-disc-like minions.

    ... or something else entirely.

He can be a toaster or worse; as long as he comes with 3 Pop Tarts that transform into Rumble, Laserbeak, and Ravage...

I want bang for my buck, I'm hoping for four TF's in one box (like Universe Ramjet that came with Ramjet and 4 mini-cons).

Probably won't know for awhile since he's not scheduled to be out until February right?

Either way, it may or may not work, but Hasbro probably doesn't see it as profitable and most kids would probably think it's outdated.

I can say for sure if it is feasible to do another role transformer, but I am pretty sure Armada Laserbeak who was a good guy with media representation was a comercial failure. If SW is a role play device I won't buy him.

So I guess that means Rumble will be Blueberry Swirl, and Frenzy will be Cinnamon.

You know, there's something else that goes into/out of remote music devices.

    Batteries.

Look at Cybertron Laserbeak's alt mode and go from there.

IVE GOT IT! Remember the Spy Tech toy line? They made a long-range listening device that worked pretty well (I still have it somewhere). It was pretty small, but with today's technology they could easily cram the electronics into a small enough area to still allow it to turn into a robot. It's something kids could play with in device mode, plus it makes sense to be named Sounwave! It's a perfect fit!

-edit- as for his tape guys, they could be a set of "dummy" batteries that go alongside the real batteries. -edit-

I miss Thing-formers. I love the hell out of them and I want a new Preceptor and Soundwave to go with my Classics Mega-gun.

-LB loved his Spy Tech gear.

I would love to see a realistic boombox transfomer with full-sized tape minions, AND CD minions. Hell, why not throw in some CF minions too? Outdated or not, it would be pretty cool.

The tape minions could have names like "Flashback" and "Oldschool".

    Maybe an 8-track named "Gramps".

I consider myself a pretty devoted fan of the original '84 series, and I think it'd be really ******ed if Soundwave showed up again as a tape deck.

As big a fan of Soundwave as I am, his tape deck mode made sense for the 80's time period. It just doesn't make sense today. I'd be disappointed if he didn't receive an upgraded mode as a modern piece of audio technology.

The thing is, for what reason does a Transformer have to be something current? Where is the written rule that says "A new Transformer shalt not be an out-dated alt mode nor shall it be a realistic machine."?

Case in point being, if we used the same argument that is being used for Soundwave not being updated as a tapedeck, then we would've never had the Dinobots. I don't look out my window and see any T-Rex's or Tri-tops walking around. G1 Scourge looks like a bar of Coast soap with engines on it, yet he's got appeal because of his cartoon character. Heck, anything post-TF:TM barely resembles anything. Jetfire, in all his coolness, doesn't necessarily look like any kind of jet I've ever seen.

My point is, to say that "We won't do Soundwave because he was a tape deck, and nobody buys tape decks anymore" is silly. Cybertron Downshift, anyone? The guy looks like 1978 is trying to give him a phone call in car mode.

Make an updated G1 Soundwave cool, and it will sell, out-dated technology or not.
