So I had just read Watchmen for the first time. Great book, but what does everybody at TFW have to say about Watchmen

Interesting read. The twist in the end is good. Not to keen on it´s ending IMO. The Comedian was an ass tho.

I liked it but I know I'd have liked it more had I known more about superhero culture. I don't read many comics, especially hero books.

The nudity bits and the more "adult-only" bits were a bit much, but overall the book was a good read. I still don't get the ending here and there, though...

Watchmen is one of the better comics I've ever read, a crowning achievement in the genre, and one of the exceptional rarities that rises above the din of its genre to be something genuinely special.

Having just heaped that glowing praise upon it, Watchmen is also one of the most overrated books I've ever seen. As good as it is, it often gets elevated to a stature beyond its means. It is not, as I have read before, one of the highlights of the written word in our culture. I mean honestly, come on.

Also, I sometimes feel like a lot of people like it because they've been told they're supposed to like it.

Awesome book, I'm optimistic the movie will be also as long as there aren't too many of those slow motion shots the trailer's have been featuring so much of.

I think it's pretty good. I also think people who liked it will start dissing it now because of the movie, as they wouldn't want to feel too "mainstream".

I have no idea what The Watchmen is about. Heard of it here & there , but this is the first time I've saw a visualization about it.
I need to catch up and read the book (s?) before catching the movie.

It looks cool as hell and heard mostly nothing but good about the story

Watchmen is a great story. However, it is a creature of its past and today feels quite dated. I trully wish that I could've read it as it was released each month that must have been something.

I compare Watchmen to Citizen Kane. A lot of people see Citizen Kane always on the top of movie lists, but when it you watch it, its not all that great. But when you compare it to everything else out at the time, it was truly groundbreaking. I put Watchmen in that same boat. A lot of books have caught up with its quality, so it is not seen in the light that it was in the 80's.

That said, the book in itself is unique. With the side stories and Black Freighter being told at the same time, it just makes for a different experience than most other graphic novels.

Chapter five alone is an example that really makes the book stand out. Most readers, I think, would probabaly look right over it without noticing that the whole chapter is symmetrical. The chapter is called Fearful Symmetry. Check it out if you have never noticed it before.

I don't feel Watchmen is dated at all.
I'm 16, and I read it last Christmas, and I though it was brilliant!

And I don't even like comic books/ graphic novels.
Which isn't to say I don't know the fiction, I just wiki it instead.
