If you're a G1 fan, just get a Macross Valkyrie. There are hundreds of different versions of it out, and they are often pretty reasonably priced, since there are so, so many of them.

Nothing wrong with Dark Skyfire, but OP mentioned pricing, and i don't think i've ever seen a Dark Skyfire selling for less than a loose Classics Jetfire.

 

You do realise that you can buy a KO Classics Jetfire on a card that looks almost like the real thing for $15? You can even get it in an assortment of colours to suit your needs. look here

This probably won't make you feel any better but have a look at these real ones  

 

I think i'd bet another $15 that it feels like a KO too.

 

Another option would be to buy a misb Tread Bolt. There is one for $50 shipped on ebay now.here

 

Grab yourself a Universe Treadbolt. Same mold, much cheaper.

 

Yeah, and I've seen at least 2 on here in the 12-15 dollar range, one of which probably being sold by Sidecutter.

Also to Miscreant, I know the black one's often more expensive & I wasn't trying to pass it off as a cheaper alternative (I think I even mentioned that in an early post), but it's just so damn cool that I couldn't resist rehashing my pic of it with Thrust.

 

An interesting problem. That could be solved if they did a fall of cybertron Jetfire.

Or for towering Jetfire size over articulation. I've found Armada Powerlinx Jetfire to be fun. The colors are more subdued over the first deco. Will recommend you get one complete since Commetor, the shield, and the booster gun help get the full effect of the impressive space shuttle mode.

Recommend getting a treadbolt just to see why classics Jetfire is such a big deal.

 

There's Energon Skyblast. Of the whole Unicron Trilogy he's the only one I'd really consider a Jetfire/Skyfire homage. The three Jetfire's all have off vehicle modes, though the Energon Jetfire could also work.
