Finally watched the first 5 episodes of the show today. I love how it mixes elements of G1, Beast Wars, Animated, and Movie-verse.

    Here are the similarities:

G1--You have voice talents and catchphrases from G1. The characterizations of Prime and Megatron also have alotof G1 qualities. The fight for energon on Earth is also G1-esque

Beast Wars--CGI animation and the whole "we're trapped on Earth and are going to defend it." mentality

Animated--Character designs and certain characters are obviously borrowed from this show and are done well.

Movie-Verse--Again character designs and characterizations are borrowed from this aspect of the TF universe.

LOVE the show. I was thoroughly impressed!!! What do you think thus far?

I'm going to say so far so good. They have managed to do lots of things I found interested and they left me hyped up to see more episodes.

I just want the animation budget increased so they can use better tools and make the combat a little less static. And hire a few more foley/SoundFX guys.

Other than that, roll on Season 1 of the best TF cartoon yet.

I'm going to largely copy what I've said in other threads that are essentially asking the same question.

At this point it's a solid 'Meh' that's leaning towards fair. To be fair, other series didn't win me over until several episodes in. (Animated didn't until "Thrill of the Hunt", BW didn't until "Other Victories" for examples) While the series may have potentialy some of the best human characters, a better written female character, Ratchet and Starscream are fantastic, it's still got a long way to go. Bumblebee is mostly a blank slate, Prime is bland as bland can be, Megatron is almost as boring as Prime and is drawn from my least favorite take on the WFC version on top of having a plan so simple that even G1 Megs would ask if there's more to it. While I'm now OK with many of the designs, I'm no fan of Optimus' design, it's just too movie. (I'm not a fan of the movie aesthetic at all.)

As for how it compares it's got a long way to go to reach the top as a favorite series (in order):

    Animated
    Beast Wars
G1 (only when considered as a whole, including the movie and the Japanese series)
    BWNeo
    Superlink
    Car Robots
    Prime
Then it tumbles down from there.

Add me to the "Meh" camp so far. All this build up about Cullen and Welker, and they deliver performances for the two most bland, one-note interpretations of the characters they helped give life to. Now they're helping to suck the life from them. The battles are boring as fighting against drones takes all the drama out of one side. Bumblebee is a complete nonentity. And the other 'Bots are the Animated cast with like 40% less personality, and in Prowl's case 100% more boobs.

To be fair Arcee is one of the best things about the series so far. And even only 5 episodes in, these are the best kids I've seen in TF fiction (although that's not that hard a contest to win). So far Prime shows promise. It's like a better version of the movies, but better is a comparative term, and the movies don't have much to compare.

Hopefully the series with have better plots than the incredibly repetitive 5-parter.

I'm in the "damn, that was good" camp at the moment. I'm not going to sit here and say that it was "unbelievable awesome" yet; I'll reserve my final judgement until the series proper airs.
But so far, I am extremely optimistic about it.

Every episode so far has been masterfully balanced between keeping the plot connected, the action moving, and though the comedy has been forced in a bit. The usage of it so far can also be interpreted as character insight.

It could be a globe trotting adventure do to the ground bridge, but it will be Great if they decide to expand the cast of characters. Though they have the unique opprotunity to just tell great stories and not just push the toy of the week for once.

If they leave cliffjumper dead, that will really add to tension of the seriously dire situation the autobots are in.

It got off to a fantastic start - Darkness Rising seemed to get better with each episode, and I'm eager to see more when February comes around.

It was decent so far. Some things feel really generic to me, but I'm not trying to complain. I can see myself following the rest of the series.
