Personally I’d love to see Guillermo Del Toro direct the reboot films. I absolutely love Pacific Rim and Trollhunters and he’d be a perfect director for these films imo. My Runner-ups would be Taikia Waititi and James Gunn.

OP, your pics are pretty much the ones I would've said. Another one would be the Russo brothers who are killing it with Marvel. Honestly, I want a director who can bring a breath of fresh air into the franchise, and build a new universe in the films themselves. No disrespect to Micheal Bay.

Altho Russo brothers are a good choice, but now it seems more unlikely, since they are now committed to MCU

General audience won't love it tho...

Damn.... James Gunn maybe? That is the guy who worked on Gaurdians of the Galaxy, right?

Yeah Del Toro has got amazing range, and can do amazing things with a passably decent script. I think he's wrapped up in his pet project though. (Whoo Lovecraftian horror)

Edit: If the writers also directed I'd love to see some combination of J. Michael Straczynski and Joss Whedon working together- something tells me that would be a compelling and interesting combination.

Well Del Toro did come to BotCon that one time, so he does at least know something about Transformers.

Del Torro. Or Steven Spielberg. TF1 was great, because Spielberg was there to hold Bay back when he wanted to do stupid things, I think. Since that movie was succes he was like: Ok, do your thing. lol

Though it's Steven Spielberg that wanted all TFs to be silver and mute. Plus he wanted them in the background. So it seems that Spielberg didn't get all that he wanted. I would prefer others than him due to this.

Echoing a few others on James Gunn. The guy actually wanted ROM Spaceknight in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie (which would have been really awesome), but couldn't due to licensing issues. If he can pull off GOTG, I think he might be the guy to pull off a good Transformers movie.

I kind of doubt it would happen, but James Gunn would be great. I feel like he knows how to really have fun and go crazy with this kind of thing while also making an extremely well-put together film. I'd also enjoy a Transformers film by Taikia Waititi. I didn't like Ragnarok as much as the Guardians films (I felt like it lacked the interesting character dynamics and heart that makes GOTG so special, a "discount GOTG" if you will), but I'm sure his style would work well for Transformers. Other good choices would be Jon Favreau or some of the Pixar people.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind smaller upcoming directors (people like Travis Knight) just make future Transformers movies. This honestly might be my first choice. I also think this is the most likely option. I feel like most big-name directors wouldn't want to make a Transformers movie unless they had an attachment to it from their childhoods. Transformers isn't really a brand with a lot of integrity, it's mostly seen as a toy commercial by the general public. I don't think we'll ever see a Transformers movie by a "visionary" director like Nolan, Spielberg, or Peter Jackson (and honestly, I wouldn't want to.) I'm a little tired of seeing the same names attached to everything, and am I the only one who feels like some of the big names are kind of running out of steam? I kind of like the idea of Transformers being a sandbox for younger directors to play in before moving on to bigger projects.

Don't really trust him after his involvement with Justice League nor do I like his ideologies anymore.

Wasn't that Lorenzo Di Bonaventura's ideas ? I remember someone said that his idea was that the robots won't talk.

No, it was Spielberg's ideas. But Lorenzo did later push alot for human-focus.

But he could make stories in the same level of Michael Bay. Besides , JL would have the same result like BvS if Zack Snyder was still in charge.

    Andrew Adamson.

He directed the first two Shrek films, so he may be the best chance at getting a Shrekformers movie.

Seriously speaking, he has experience with both live action and CGI animation. He directed the first two Shrek movies and the first two Narnia movies, all which got at least decent reviews, and I thought they were acceptable and enjoyable family movies; Shrek especially is one of my favorites.
