From either the recent live action film, or much more preferably from the comics and / or the older animated TV series (which have both offered more time to get to know the Transformer characters), who are currently your 3 favorite Transformer characters and please say WHY, for each fave one named.

If this topic has been discussed here (or on any other sites you know of) before, please give a thread link if you have any on file, as I did a search here and unfortunately nothing came up, as the search system on this board isn't that good.

I know you said only three but I gotta cheat and say the five original Dinobots.

I always liked Dinosaurs as a kid and when I saw the Dinobots I went nuts for them.

*Edit: I'm a jackass and didnt explain.*

Shockwave - for his performance in the early issues of the Marvel series, and for his unique robot mode design. Hexagons!

Grimlock - I equally like his cartoon "I'm a big jerk who breaks whatever I want" personality and his comic "I'm an even bigger jerk but I evolve into a leader with more insight than Prowl" growth. Plus he's a robot t-rex.

Bugbite - I think his Botcon bio is one of the most creative pieces of TF Fiction ever conceived (well, it's mostly borrowed from the ehobby set, but they combine for a great character) and his toy is very aesthetically pleasing

    Tigatron:

Probobly the only zen/nature-buff/semi-pacifist that wasn't a hippie. He was always calm, in charge and loyal to the end. Plus, "Law of the Jungle" was one of the best of season 1 of BW.

    Sky-byte:

Okay, he's a silly guy, but he had very few "anime moments" and had a wondeful voice actor. He also had one of the coolest toys and was about the only character in the show besides UM ith an inner conflict. (and I mean a good inner conflict, not like Skid-Z) Plus he was frikkin hilarious!

    EDIT:

    BW Megatron:

Probobly the only intelligent Megatron. His sceming and deception were sly and David Kaye was brilliant! He had the coolest forms and even though had to suffer the usual 90's villian loses, he usualy got what he wanted in the end. (or made it so the Maximals couldn't get what they wanted) and if it weren't for a minor oversight at the end of season two, he would have won. (And he was such a smartass sometimes!)

    and finally..

    3. menasor(cybertron): big, rothless, and the only giagantion robot who fought for the desipticons for a while.

If I could only pick 3 I'd go with Car Robo 3 Kyoudai from Car Robot. Because they are fun to watch and I love the toys. I like them so much as characters I am not interested in their toy recolours as different characters.

Rampage. The baddest villian to ever grace any show, he allowed himself to die to kill his nemesis, how badass is that lol

Grimlock. he's the biggest and baddest autobot of them all, and he's the reason i even like transformers.

Starscream. one of the few decepticon that had any real balls to try and overpower megatron, and his episode in beast wars turned him into a badass comander, I wish he had more than one episode, since his spark is indestrucable there was so much more they could of done with him, but if it weren't for starscream, there would be no rampage.

Only three? It's hard to pick.

Grimlock- "Me Grimlock make top three, maybe me be in TFTM 2 if me want"

Hotrod- The reckless, imperfect leader. A great balance to Prime's perfectness.

Jazz- Supercool in G1 with Scatmans voice.

Hey, I have one from three different eras.

Soundwave- He could fit in the palm of your hand in alt-mode, and he was able to launch his friends out of a compartment in his chest. Plus, his voice was awesome

Bumblebee (movie version)- even though he couldn't speak, BB had a lot of personality. He really was the true star of the movie and a flagship character.

Dinobot- This guy was ALL about honor. In his first episode, he challenges Optimus Primal to a fight and manages to p*ss off Megatron as well. Alas, his spark was extinguished, but that just made him that much more of a badass.

Starscream: The foul sceams always keep suprising

Optimus Prime: He's the leader of the autobots and he would throw away his life for others.

If it was a top 5, i would also have mentioned: Unicron and Shockwave

My picks, hard to choose a definitive three favourites, but these are indicative of my preferences:

G1 Starscream - from both the toon and the comic. His appearance in both jet and robot modes is iconic and stuck with me from childhood, and his constant scheming and treachery really livened up the decepticon side of the story. And he had a cool death in the movie.

BW Tarantulas - I love his TM form, his shoulder machine guns and his mysterious provenance.

G1 Thunderwing - from the comic. Had a major part in some of the best story arcs of the G1 run, and was ruthless and singleminded in his pursuit of the matrix.
