Both are about the same price. Tesla is a pure electric vehicle that can go 300 miles on one charge and recharges in 45 mins. Volt is a plug in hybrid that has a regulare Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and an electric battery which can go 45 miles on battery alone (300 miles with both battery and ICE) and has to be charged overnight.

Both are going to be around $40,000 but that price will come down as they become more mainstream as has happened with the Prius.

they are NOT the same price. Tesla S will start at $57,400 for a model that goes 160 miles a charge, and $65,000 for the model that goes 300 miles. Volt is supposed to be $40,000.

You're right. Its not 40,000. Its 49,000. Thats after a 7500 government credit to purchase it.

Tesla's Electric Car for the (Well-Off) Masses - BusinessWeek

According to that article, it just says the Tesla S goes 300 miles on a charge. It makes no mention of a second model of 65000.

    Tesla

It looks more cooler and sleeker than the Volt. Besides, it charges within 45 min., as opposed to the Volt which takes overnight to charge back up.

I thought the volt's ICE only ran a generator and it would keep the car running as long as it had gas? It's not a hybrid as the engine does not power the car. Where did you get the info you posted?

The new one is a pretty cool looking little car. Did you see the thing they had on Top Gear recently?

You're right. But it still runs on both electric or gasoline powered electric - thus the hybrid designation.

This is true. The gas motor is only used to recharge the battery, keeping it between 30% and 70%, it could never power the car, so it isn't technically a hybrid. But if you only drive 40 miles or so a day, and plug it in every night, you'll never have to use the gas engine.
