Personally, I've never cried at any of Prime's deaths.

But I will have to agree that Prime's death in the 1986 movie is the most dramatic, followed closely by Prime's death in ROTF.

Easily G1 Prime. Even if they did completely invalidate the whole thing by bringing him back.

G1 movie. Easily. His death came so so so so close to killing off Transformers, period.

Well this flashback sequence - where Optimus Prime demonstrates all the durability of a redshirt - is pretty damn sad in an entirely different sense of the word:

G1 Prime he made made millions of kid cry and nearly took the franchise to the grave with him and did take several other planned animated movies with him but on the plus side he did save Duke of G.I.Joe's life as they were planning on killing him off in the G.I. Joe movie that got shunted to TV instead

G1 death, hands down. Most dramatic, and had the biggest effect on the franchise as a whole, what with nearly killing it off, as well as making Prime's death a recurring feature in fiction as a whole.

Also, stop making polls that are "pick as many choices as you want" when only one selection is necessary.

I'm sticking with my show. Seeing Optimus Primal blown up at the end of Beast Wars season 1 was pretty sad. Trying to save the world and finding out Megatron got you trap and cant escape. Only seeing your end coming and nobody can help. That's pretty sad IMO.

G1 hands down. Like others have said, lots of kids cried and almost killed the series. I still haven't forgiven Hot Rod. I wonder if I can find a shirt like that for Botcon?

G1 movie, no contest. I think the big thing that seperates it from the rest of the Prime deaths is that -- with the exceptions of the time he went out like a chump in Headmasters, or Primal's fate at the end of Beast Machines -- it was the only death that really seemed like it was intended to be permanent.

Armada when Optimus sacrificed himself to save planet Earth I even bawl about that [Armada episode Crisis] :cry

G1 Prime (in the movie), it's the only Prime death that got any sort of reaction out of me.

G1 Optimus Prime as he died twice with Hot Rodimus partially responsible both times. Anyway, I was an adult when the TF 86 Movie was released. I was in shock, and kids that had been chatting it up until that point in the Movie were deathly quiet when Optimus passed away. Though not written well, TROOP was the happiest moment for me in Season 3.

    Folks:

How about "Dark Awakening", in its original order of airing, without the blurb for TRoOP? :ev:

The movie death was at least heroic. What a fight! But Dark Awakening...well...not so much.

Since the title says "Prime", how about Vector Prime's death in Cybertron? Bud's gradual realization of what was actually happening to his hero was awfully realistic, considering the character's age, and it really lent the scene some genuine impact.

G1. Transformers was never the same after he died. People I know including myself refused to accept Rodimus as the leader and prefer Ultra Magnus because Prime picked him.

100% agreed, his death in the Transformers Movie was terrible. The moment he dropped that matrix wast he moment my heart died, but at least he went out in a cool way.

Most dramatic - Armada. He died shutting down a Decepticon death machine using the power of the Matrix, and then when the smoke cleared, there he was, he's okay, he's... turned white with bits cracking off... HIS FACE JUST EXPLODED!

Say what you will about Armada, but that scene worked pretty well. The few death scenes in Armada were all well handled. Melting Smokescreen or Starscream's last stand, anyone?

Most emotional - got to go with the G1 here. The final words and the character's reactions add a lot to the scene, but the way his hand goes limp, his head just falls like the joint lost all friction, and all colour fades from him, combined with Vince DiCola's excellent scoring, really drives home the point that a hero has died.
