Im looking for a nice display (out of box) soundwave.

    G1
    TRU
    Encore

What do you guys like and why?

I believe the TRS classic holds 2 tapes in his chest? Do g1 tapes fit?

    Same question for encore.

    Any opinions?

It looks like ebay can give both the TRu or encore for 50-60$. G1 could be more or less.

    Thanks

All Soundwaves can hold all G1 cassettes (the Japanese exclusive dinocassettes are of a different size, but how many people have those? :lol  ). The only notable mold difference between any of the figures is the TRU reissue's use of the Soundblaster mold instead of Soundwave. That's how he has the double capacity in his chest.

So far as Encore versus G1 is concerned, go for price and best condition first. An Encore is probably just the safest bet overall, or the TRU if you can find it for a good price. eBay's usual price for the TRU reissue is higher than what you might find it for here.

Do you think 48$ including shipping is something to jump on for encore or can it be had cheaper?

I've got an original G1 (from the original G1 days) and a TRU reissue. The TRU is basically a recoloured version of the Soundblaster mould, which is why it holds two normal tapes, and it comes with Ravage and Laserbeak (which was cool, as they were the only two original cassettes I lacked, and was the other reason I wanted it so much :p ). Aside from the front deck, it's basically the same as a G1 Soundwave.

I didn't know about the dino cassetes being a different size, Chosen - what's the difference, and how does it affect them fitting in Soundwave/blaster?

Not 100% sure, but I believe it's that they're just smaller. I'm sure someone has done a comparison shot alongside Slugfest or Overkill or any other cassette, to illustrate the difference. They would fit if I'm right and my memory's not playing tricks, just not as well as any other cassette.

$48 shipped for an Encore sounds pretty good. But I'm one of those jerks who actually got a TRU Soundwave from toysrus.com after release, so it's still worse than what I paid for mine. :D

    Ebay:
The TRU version, since it's the newest and comes with two tapes. Stay away from the crappy overpriced "MP3" player Soundwave.

But you got an extra tape with your TRU model!

I may pass on the encore @ 48$ bc if i buy ravage or another tape it will cost the same or more than the TRU model.

Life is all about these tough decisions...

Get the TRU one and if you decide you don't like the mold then get a G1 loose.

I favor Encore version, and it's easy why I do

    -G1 fig
    -G1 box
-low price and cheaper to replace if something happens to it

But if I could have got the same thing in a US store it would have cost half that ($25). Sorry, it's a long-standing complaint for Brits...

The TRU reissue is intriguing, as it is a blue Soundblaster.

If you want the figure exactly how it was in 1985, purchase the Encore.

Either way, you really can't go wrong with a G1 figure with such great play value.

That's a tough call, pretty subjective based on whether you like the one or the two door version. Personally I like the 1 door better but the two door is sort of neat too in how it makes his chest less flat.

Yeah, he's nice too. I got a mint copy of the vintage bootleg of him (darker blue, says 'cassette' on knees, stamped Shantai Taiwan) for a good deal:

What makes Squawktalk a problem, and for what versions of Soundwave? I don't have it or Beastbox myself, something I want to rectify in the long term.

Squawktalk and Beastbox are both larger than the original Microman cassettes. Some people assumed neither of them could actually fit in Soundwave, but Beastbox can (though it is a tight fit). However, Squawktalk has molded details on the side of his cassette mode that, in addition to his added width, make him too big to squeeze in. If you sanded them off then he'd probably fit, but it's probably not worth the trouble
