Which of these G1 robot design evokes 'jet mode' most ?

    Hi,

We all know these G1 Transformer characters turn into jets...but which of their robot designs evokes the "airplane" vibe the most and which one, the least ?

Explain your criteria. For example : are visible wings, in robot mode, the most decisive criteria or otherwise ? Or is it some other factor ?

Make your choice out of these high profile G1 ( realistic style ) jets :

I'd say the Coneheads. There's really no mystery there that they turn into jets, although the only one's there that really hide it at all are Silverbolt and Darkwind, IMO.

    Thanks for your vote :)

I pick Jetfire. The torso and limbs simply scream 'jet' imo.

Dreadwind takes 2nd spot because he also features this 'jet' torso.

To me, the more rectangular the robot design, the less it evokes 'jet' to me. Rectangular reads as blocky to me and blocky = less aerodynamic = less jet-vibe.
Thus, imo the standard Seekers look fairly rectangular to me as well, despite the centered canopy and wings on the back.

The robot design which least hints at a jet has to be Silverbolt to me : that's why he's the worst jet-former in my book.

Thanks, but plse keep it to this G1 list, because G2 made some serious leaps forward in terms of engineering jetmodes for TF's.

I think I'll have to give it to the seekers on this one, if only because the mold is so iconic. All of the major parts of the jet are visible in robot mode, and all of them hold a certain function or aesthetic focus.

Ok, about 67% votes to the default Seekers.

I wonder what the motivations are though : just because they're iconic or ... ?

Imo, they look a bit too blocky/clunky/rectangular to be considered the robot deisgn with the most 'jet-vibe' style....

Cyber jets or GTFO but if I had to keep this G1 then Jetfire or the seekers

Yep, and the Cyberjets are exactly the reason why I didn't include G2, because they'd win instantly and/or JetFire...imo.

It's gotta be that they're just iconic...I mean, the Coneheads have literally the exact same aesthetic, but with the added "jet-like feature" of nosecones on their heads...there's really no good reason I can think of that makes the Seekers look any more jet-like than the Coneheads, so they really shouldn't be in the lead, IMO.

The wings are more visible on the original seekers backs than the leg mounted wings of the coneheads. That's what gives them more of a aerial look imo.

Well I don't think that's the reason. Take the 3 main Seekers in robot mode and compare that mode to the underside of an actual F-15A Eagle... and in robot mode you still see an F-15. Both real jet and the bots are rectangular/blocky.
And you can't really go wrong with those hughe air intakes which is the most symbolic feature on the Seekers.

Jetfire gets my vote, the entire character just oozes jet if you ask me! Even in robot mode, you just know this bad boy is going to transform into a jet.
