I'm pretty partial to the one that I got for Christmas when I was in Kindergarden in 1986.

Yeah, it's Energon. Classics would've been the best with a few tweaks.

These are top choices if you don't want a G1-style Galvatron, as they are great figures.

But for G1-style, Energon is still the best.

As with Blaster, I don't feel there has really been a good figure of G1 Galvatron, and I'm holding that spot in my collection open for a possible future one.

I may hate Universe 2.0 Galvatron, but I like his look more than Energon Galvatron.

Energon Galvatron does the best at looking like G1 Galvatron, especially if you pull his wings off (thanks safety features!), but he's huge compared to any deluxes or voyagers you'd want to display him with, and his articulation is a bit underwhelming. His Japanese counterpart is a better size but wretched colors. Universe Galvatron is just a travesty.

Personally I'm using SG Galvatron as a stand in for the real deal cos he's a good size when paired with Cyclonus and Scourge, he has the right colors (aside from the eyes) and good articulation. If you put Energon Rodimus' gun on his forearm, it's a good approximation of his G1 particle cannon.

Cybertron Galvatron is a fantastic figure, but he wouldn't ever be my definitive Galvatron because... he has Megatron colors. Same with RiD Galvatron, who I think works better as a completely unrelated character (using his original Japanese name of Gigatron... in fact, I like RiD Megatron's colors better than Galvatron's)

Cybertron & Energon. I also like the purple reissue of the g1 toy.

Energon Megatron. Yes, Megatron. Because I've always preferred my Galvatrons to be grey like the original toy.
There's always the Deluxe-sized Energon Megatron if you don't mind the grey instead of purple.

Got to go with Universe, if you're going for likeness.

The best toy has actually still to be made. From the looks Universe Galvatron is the best. But only look. Don't touch. There is one cool pose. Leave it as this and feel content that he stands still.

Ah, I hadn't realized this was a G1-focused thread since I didn't see anything in the original post indicating that.

And yes, Energon is the best G1-ish Galvatron, and Botcon SG isn't bad either.

WFC Megatron actually makes for a VERY sweet Galvatron with some kitbashing/paint. even turns into a very close approximation of his G1 alt-mode.

The Rage over Cybertron redeco works the best of the four WFC Megs releases...the Tokyo Toy Show United Darkside redeco isn't bad either.
