I have recently become interested in getting a few of the Materpiece toys and I really can't decide. The ones I am interested in most are Ultra Magnus and Prime. I might get an Ultra Magnus and Prime regardless, but which Prime should I get? The Mp-04 or MP-01. The 04 comes with the trailer but the 01 is cheaper. I haven't decided if i would open either of them. Most likely I would take the Ultra Magnus out while keeping the Prime in box as they are relatively the same toy. Is the 04 better articulated or is it just the trailer that's the difference?

MP-04's only change is the addition of the trailer, the Primes themselves are identical, so depending on how complete you want your Prime to be should determine what you want, is having the trailer worth the extra price to you. It's worth noting that the trailer itself is complete, it does transform and includes the repair drone, but it does not include Roller.

If you ask me keeping any of them in box is a waste unless you're just interested in selling them later when the collector value goes up. None of the boxes are windowed and they display just as nicely with or without the toy inside them.

    In regards to MP-04,

The trailer's the main difference, and the mouthplate's just a bit higher on Prime's face. Unfortunately, there've been some QC issues as far as things not lining up on him well, and paint not matching. There is no difference as far as articulation is concerned.

If anyone has anything that I left out, go for it.

The long and short of it is: You'll get a better Prime if you get MP-01, but an additional trailer if you get MP-04.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

    Have fun, all!!!

Sounds good. I was going to open Ultra Magnus anyway, because he's my favourite TF and I want to play with him. I guess I'll buy an MP-01 than. I wasn' that interested in the trailer anyway. Thanks guys.

Since the trailer doesn't do really anything interesting (doesn't even come with Roller), I would go for a trailer-less MP-01. But if they do a trailer for Magnus, now that would be worth it.

since you dont have any MPs yet. I must suggest that you go and pick up MP-04. Its got the trailer. But if the trailer is'nt for you of the budget is not enough for MP-04 then get MP-01. If you're not after good quality you can get the DVD prime. I think its on sale now. Pretty much the same mold as MP-01 & MP-04 minus the long smokestacks and the paint jobs awful.

MP 04 hands down. Prime just does'nt seem Prime without it, and that non opening trailer is just a tease.
Then you can have fun trying to find or make/paint a Roller for it.

MP 04 is the only MP I DONT have and I still say get it! :lol

I'd just pick up the MP-1 Convoy. It's actually not that hard to make a custom trailer for the guy, I got a 1:32 scale die cast truck trailer and used that (actually, it might have been a 1:24, once you get him you'll be able to tell by the size of the cab how big a trailer you'll need.)

I'd say it worked out pretty well:

    Good man. I approve.

MP-02, Ultra Magnus, IMO is totally worth it. I absolutely love mine. He is the high point in my Magnus collection and in my entire TF collection for that matter. That is the only TF I have dropped more than $100 bucks on (w/ shipping).

I still hope Tak/Tom will just release the MP-04 Trailer w/a bonus MP Roller. :D

I've been debating with myself whether to get the Masterpiece or original Magnus. They both cost the same relatively.

You should be able to get an original cheaper than an MP-02.

Exactly. For now, though, I would say get your hands on an MP first and a vintage or reissue when you can.

I almost forgot! Is the 20th Anniversary Prime better than the Mp-01? I see that it's cheaper. And I am NOT talking about the DVD one.

20th Prime has the short stacks and the battle damage sooting effect. But they're essentially the same.
