I've decided to add a single Headmaster to my G1 collection as a representation of that gimmick. I've only got space on my Autobot shelf for one small to medium sized figure, so the city-size guys are out. Which one should I get, and why?

Hosehad, Nightbeat, and Siren are amongst the most expensive American Headmasters due to their added helmet & antennae gun accessories. Hardhead has gone up in price ever since he got a Spotlight comic. Honestly I think your best bet would be Chromedome. He's a nice solid figure, transforms easily, and he won't break the bank.

    Ebay:
I'd go with Chromedome if you're just looking for an example - you'll save $$$. Of those listed, I tend to see him running slightly cheaper than the others. And he was hot $hit in the Headmasters cartoon, so there's that too. If they were ninja turtles, Chromedome would have been "Leonardo".

Looking at eBay right now, it looks like the Chromedomes actually running a bit higher than the Hardheads. I'm leaning toward Chromedome though, just because of the "Leonardo" thing. If he's the leader, unofficial or not, it seems like he'd be the best choice as an example. I do plan to watch the series one day.

Thanks for all the replies so far. MOAR VOTES!

Man, I really should've done my research first. I just read this on his Wikipedia page:

"He is an Autobot Headmaster computer programmer who turns into a car."

We share an occupation. Guess that settles it.

You turn into a car? Oh wait. Computer programmer seems more likely :lol

I voted Hardhead as I always liked his toy the most out of the Autobot HMs, but it seems you've decided.

You had it right the first time. I am paid to turn into a futuristic car, 40 hours a week. Also my head pops off. It's physically strenuous, but the pay is decent.

Honestly, I was about 90% on Hardhead before I started this thread, for the same reason. I'm a sucker for green military Transformers. Maybe I'll find a way to squeeze him in later.

I voted Brainstorm. The JRs, as mentioned, are both expensive and hard to complete because of the little guns. I think Brainstorm is probably the least blocky of the other 4 and he and Highbrow have the best use of a cockpit since you can see the headmaster inside.

As you can see in the pic above, the large Headmaster robots are much more pleasant to look at than their smaller cousins. I think you're going to enjoy Chromedome and all of his geewunny goodness. Those two points of articulation he has make for some epic poses! He can shoot stuff on the ground or in the air, so long as it's directly in front of him! If you're after a Powermaster/Godmaster, I'd suggest Getaway/Lightfoot. Should you decide on a Targetmaster I'd have to suggest Crosshairs; Pinpointer looks awesome in gun or robot modes.

I voted Nightbeat. I like the character the most, as he's a detective, and he's also my favorite Headmaster toy of the ones I own (Hardhead, Brainstorm, Nightbeat, Skullcruncher, Mindwipe and Snapdragon) as I think he looks the best.

At the risk of looking like a showoff, AngryChad, here's a group picture so you can better decide for yourself. :)

All of them are cool, but my vote goes to Chromedome. Always liked him best!

I like the original Headmasters better than the "Juniors"...Nightbeat and company are cool but the first four just seemed more solid to me.

    Chromedome...

Remember that you've space for ONLY ONE Headmasters?

Then get Chromedome for he's the Leader of the pack. (As depicted in Japanese Headmasters) :thumbs2:

Agreed, i'm not a fan of any other headmaster robot... to be honest, i'm not really a fan of the Autobot Headmasters! I'd recommend Weirdwolf if he was an option but since he isn't... i'd go Hardhead.

    dual Guns
    HUGE
    Great looking Tank

The others are just big bricks... not to say HH isn't a brick but he just pulls it off better.

Chromedome is always on his heals and stands funny
Highbrow is ok, not that great...
Brainstorm... 2nd best Autobot Headmaster! If not Hardhead, get Brainstorm. Jet mode is awesome and you can get some great action poses out of his legs :2c:

    So in Summary

    1. Weirdwolf (consider him at least!)
    2. Hardhead
    3. Brainstorm

A word of advice....once you start, you can't stop at one headmaster.

Also u should think about getting a decepticon hm.
