With all the reveals that were made at BotCon 2010, I was wondering what the fandom's view would be on the fact that some characters are being made in Deluxe sizes.

For the purposes of display there are some characters who I believe deserve the larger size class:

    Optimus
    Megatron
    Thunderwing
    Straxus/Darkmount
    Soundwave
    Shockwave maybe
    Rodimus Prime probably
    Grimlock
    Jetfire
    Galvatron

Basically my view is that anybody who has been portrayed as a Leader (due to physical prowess- feck off Ratbat fans!) or is already known as a larger character in general should always get a larger size class.

    Thoughts?

(I do appreciate that there is the business/commercial side of things that have to apply here. So I do appreciate the need for smaller versions of Prime and Megatron).

Reaslistically, size classes are off anyway. Seekers being smaller than Prime is silly. WfC Bee being taller than Optimus- silly again.

For collectability, I agree that 'leaders' deserve larger figures, while the rest should be Deluxes or even Scouts.

Right now, it seems as though Hasbro is somewhat down-sizing everything (except making G1 minibots into Ultras, but that's another story). Look at the PCC's. All scout-classed. Look at RotF Scouts- better than some of the Deluxes. Heck, even G1 Legends are coming.
Could this be an economic decision, or are figures in the works that make the small figures make sense? New Metroplex? New Omega or Trypticon? New (dare I ask) Fort Max?

For me, Thunderwing should be Ultra class, since I'm a big fan of IDW's Stormbringer. But I'm glad Hasbro decide to release a new mold of him.

As for Optimus, though I would prefer him to be Voyager sized, I'm ok with him as a deluxe if he has a certain bulk/presence to him eg WFC Optimus. To me, Prime need not be one of the biggest Autobots. Same opinion applies to Megatron I guess.

I gotta disagree about Optimus. We've gotten a couple of really awesome deluxes at least in bot mode for him. Animated Cyb. Deluxe Optimus is awesome, and the Universe 1.0 2 pack with Megatron is Awesome. Alt mode for the Universe1.0 not so much, but that robot mode is way cool.

If anything, I would like to advance the opposite complaint. We get weirdos in the Deluxe line like Wheelie, Ravage (human/tiger sized) and Motorbike Arcee. I would like to see SCOUTS used as something other than a wastebin for minor characters and offscreen characters. Scout anything smaller than a car to go with a car, and while you're at it, Scout cars to go with the Voyager-class leaders and jets.

It's at the point where I will buy ANY car in the Scout range. Pity (for Hasbro) there are so very few.

I wouldn't have minded a deluxe movie Bonecrusher...if he got the same treatment as Brawl.

Deluxe is my go-to preferred size class so I wouldn't mind any character being done in that size. I'm not against the larger sizes but I don't feel certain characters should be exempt from being Deluxed.

I think if every "leader" was a leader it wouldn'nt be a win money wise for Hasbro.

Do you realize how many of them would fit on the shelf at once?

They would probably only ever get 1 wave in since they would never all sell.

This would be profit suicide for retailers and Hasbro.

I was going to say the Cityformers and Omega Supreme...but then I thought they may go well with WST or Legends-scale figures, so what the hell, even they might work if the design is nice.

I've shifted from buying 'the best and most appropriate of each main character' when buying stuff to 'nice molds and other stuff that catches my eye, scale be damned.' It helps me fuss over scale a bit less.
