Derrick is the Lead Character Designer/Art Director on the show. I think he designs most of the main characters. Anything he doesn't design probably starts with his direction and requires his approval. There was one example he didn't design that he posted on his site. Blur as scrap metal. He credited the guy who did that. Oil Slick is another. That was originally designed by people at Hasbro.
I believe that 70% comes from Derrick Wyatt and 30% from Maramba, Eric probably revises all the CN designs to Hasbro's liking.
The way i understand it - Derrick and Eric collaborate on all characters. It's been said in the collectors club mag that there's lot of back and forth sketching between those two in the creation of characters. Derrick focuses on the style and art of it, while Eric pins down the transformation and technical stuff so that the toy can function similar to what you see in the show... So, while Derrick creates the final model sheet for show production, it would appear that the character creation process is more of a joint effort.
It's a shame that Derrick gets all of the credit. Nothing against him at all, he does incredible work, but Eric is one heck of a talented guy too.
Quite. Both of them deserve equal credit for the characters. I'm just glad they made the toys so awesome.
Yeah that's basically what I said, with the plus that I wouldn't be surprised if Eric helped with designs from all CN staff either.
