    Hey gang,

I'm thinking about buying figures who best represent G1 Optimus Prime and G1 Megatron. BUT...There's a catch: I don't want one without the other; TFs need their yin and yang after all :)  So, if you can think of a Prime in a collection, but can't come up with a Megatron, it doesn't work.

The ones I've found that I think work are:
1984's G1 Optimus Prime and Megatron (duh)
MP-1 Optimus Prime and MP-5 Megatron
Henkei (or Classics) Optimus Prime and Megatron
United (or Generations) Optimus Prime and Megatron

So, can ya think of any I'm missing?

    Thanks all, and have fun!

If you have to get the pair, my choice would be the masterpieces.

I'm in luck...those are the only two I DO have :D

Thanks for the response, Malach Ra!

I look at both G1 Optimus Prime and G1 Megatron as iconic toys and my collection would feel incomplete without them. So they would be my obvious first choice.

My second choice would be the MP pair.

Honestly, the rts legends are pretty cool versions of them.

I agree. The rts figures are some of my favorites. My opinion:

    G1 versions.
    Mps
    Legends.

G1 and Classics/Henkei are great. I've always wanted a Masterpiece Complete Prime but never had the chance to get one...MP10 is my opportunity. Really looking forward to it.

I love the Classics Optimus and Megatron to death. Both of them are fantastic updates, and I actually prefer Hasbro's Nerf-atron to the Henkei/United deco.

The Legends are simply awesome, too. I only have Optimus so far, but everything I've seen of Megatron says he's just as great.

Henkei Prime and United Megatron win easily for me.

MP Prime is fine, but too boxy and heavy for my tastes. MP Megs is just a shockingly awful figure IMO. Too scrawny and fragile and trying to pose him is like trying to pose a string puppet! Plus his face scuplt doesn't look like Megs to me.

MP Megs is a pig to pose.

But I'd have to go for MP.

Henkei Convoy is an awesome G1 representation. I don't own Henkei or United Megs so I can't comment on that.

QFT! Awesome little guys, plus they're relatively cheap and easy to find. [sidenote: don't pass on rts legends Starscream either, he's great too]

    Prime/Megs pairings in my collection:
    -G1 (Encore actually)
    -MP
    -Henkei
    -RTS Legends
And even though they're not G1-esque, I'll mention
    -Generations WFC
-Sports Label...a bit offbeat as shoes, but I'm a sneaker collector too so this was a no-brainer for me

    Potential future purchases:
-once everything settles with the Bay movies, the "best" versions of movie Prime + Megs
-BWs: should I expect any updates/re-releases?

Masterpiece would be my first choice, followed by the WFC Generations figures, then the Classics. The catch is, I'd rather have the Henkei/United Voyager Megatron over that purple/green NERF gun Megatron for classics.

Cool everybody; thanks for the heads-up! I may have to keep my eyes peeled for those RTS guys. I'd never heard of them and they look great, ESPECIALLY for their size.

    Have fun!

RTS Legends Optimus (decent enough) and Megs (very awesome, as is Starscream) are so tiny and fun! If you can spring for the money, Revoltech G1 Convoy (rare and may require evilBay) and Megs (fairly common) are nice, though they don't transform (they're uber poseable and lots of fun too).

Other options include Alternity Convoy and Megatron, both as Nissan sports cars. Very cool molds but pretty pricy (they're imports) given their size. DOTM Voyager Prime and Megs look cool too, though I don't own these guys (I do own all the others I've mentioned).

Revoltech Megatron is really nice. I love Revoltech G1 Prime, but I almost think that the Hybrid version would be better.

    Actionmasters!
I don't know if it's just me but MP Megatron's face sculpt has always put me in mind of Leonard Nimoy taking a difficult shit. From the very first time I saw the figure it's been a 'Cannot Unsee!' situation.
