Alternators/Binaltech came out when I was in my "off" period, so I'm still new to them. From what I've seen so far, they match up well with the Masterpiece series.

I just received an Alternator Smokescreen that was repainted to more closely match the G1 color scheme and it looks just like a mini-MP, it's great!

Which other Alternators either (A) already possess a great resemblance to their G1 counterpart, or (B) with a little paint work could become a close resemblance?

I would say Tracks, Hound and Skids are very G1 accurate updates.

Well I'll give my 2 cents on the ones i have, so here it goes.

I'd say Hound is a pretty good representation of his G1 self, sure the alt mode has the Jeep bars/rollcage or whatever it is, but the bot mode is great! (Reprolabel stickers help the image alot too)

Then there's Sunstreaker and Sideswipe, tho Sunstreaker looks more true to the original but overall they're both good to have aswell.

Now wheeljack.....well with the reprolabel stickers he's passable but not what you'd consider a masterpiece.

And then there's Prowl and BTA Red Alert. Switch their heads around and get the reprolabel stickers and they're both pretty much perfect G1 interpretations, and look great in both modes.

Can't really say much on the other ones as i don't have them, but from what I've seen Jazz looks really nice with reprolabel stickers, unfortunatly he's always too pricey for me...

But yes, hope that helps, and for alot of them to have the G1 look, as I've stated a number of times the reprolabel stickers really help

Straight out of the box without any repro mods? No question; Hound & Tracks. Save for the flames on Skids and lack of decals on Jazz, they're also pretty close.

    Tracks, Hound

Some are SOOOO close though. Take the Sideswipe head and dump it on Prowl and you'll have a damn close Red Alert.

Without any modification, I would agree with Tracks, 100% (the repro-sticker helps a lot, though). Despite the apparent consensus view here, I honestly don't see Hound as very similar. He's missing the essential shoulder missile launcher, and his head doesn't quite work for me, try though they did to match the original.

With modifications, the Alert/Prowl swap and reprolabels add-on makes for an amazing Prowl.

Hound, Blue Tracks, and Skids. With the reprolabel upgrade sets they would be even more G1 accurate.

I would say Hound and Tracks are almost dead-on. Sideswipe/Sunstreaker are not too far off either.

As above, Hound (aside from the rear rollcage bar), Skids, the blue version of Tracks. I think Wheeljack's much better than his original version, which had annoyingly stubby legs. The head's pretty accurate.

And to answer the reverse of the question, it'd be difficult to come up with an Alternator or Binaltech who resembled his G1 counterpart less than Grimlock. Totally arbitrary use of that name.

Jag Ravage and Rumble are quite accurate as well, and still very original.

Which is the best to use if you're planning to make a custom Prowl? Silverstreak/Smokescreen?

Yes he is. I'd say Silverstreak is one of the most G1 accurate. He's a Subaru rather than a Datson but his transformation and the placement of his sliver and red paint is incredibly G1 accurate. Definately one of the most G1 like without reprolables and a personal fave of mine. A highly underated Alt.

Hound is amazingly accurate to his G1 transformation as well, only more complex of course. Gotta give props to Swindle too, very nice.

Blue Tracks is a must, near perfect. Skids is pretty accuate too.

Prowl is good, but the hood is flat unlike G1. Sunstreaker is pretty accurate too but Sideswipe has his hood for his feet rather than chest. Aside from those minor things though, they are still some as close as you can get to G1 updates.

Wheeljack and Jazz need the reprolables.

Even with all the racing decals and whatnot, I'd say Smokescreen. The head's dead-on, the body looks extremely close, and the weapon's a near-perfect match.

No red on him, but still, awfully close, I always thought.

And yeah, Hound and Tracks. And, in his way, Rumble.

Hound and Jazz with the reprolabels are pretty perfect.
