I was just at Fry's and to my shock they actually had alternators (quite a few on the shelf even). They were priced at 24.99 (sadly I did not/do not have any cash so a purchase will have to wait), which I'm guessing was their standard retail.

Now, they only had 3 different molds (a few of each though)...so I was trying to figure out who to get when I can afford to go get one.

So between Rollbar, Skids, and Ricochet....who should I pick up?

Skids. The other two are just sucky repaints of way better characters that came before them. And Skids is a great mold.

It was mostly between him and Rollbar anyways. Which has the more complex/fun transformation...that's a major factor to me actually.

Skids is a more challenging transformation, so I guess it's more satisfying. The jeep is one of the easiest alts to transform.

Reprolabels has some nice sticker sets for Ricochet and Rollbar. With those applied, my personal favorites out of those 3 , in order, are:

    1-Ricochet (as divebomb)
    2-Skids
    3-Rollbar (as tantrum)

If you can only get one, but can't afford sticker sets, go for Skids. But if you can manage to scrounge more money, get all 3 :D

Yeah, the more challenging transformation is a big plus. How is Ricochet though, since I like the way he looks.

    Leaning towards Skids though.

Skids. 100%. Skids is one of the best Alternator Molds as far as articulation and balance goes in robot mode, and his transformation is both complex and understandable. Best part vs. the subaru mold is that he requires infinitely less part "massaging" to get him right in alt mode, everything clicks into place. Aside from him, I'd say Rollbar. The Jeep mold is nice, but is quite simple for an alt.

Give Ricochet a pass, I'd say. My main issue with the subaru mold is its built-in flaw in shoulder design that basically means the shoulders will eventually, inevitably, droop madly. Arms should never be held up by an unsupported or unratcheted upward swinging hinge. Ever.

Skids. The other two are pretty crappy.

Seems to be the general consensus so Skids it is (helps that I actually like Scions too).

I just hope I can work up some cash since, knowing my luck, this'll be my last chance to pick up an Alternator at retail.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Silverstreak or Smokescreen...I know they aren't in the options for you, so I guess that kinda of gives you my response to your inquiry, :D

On my Skids the front doors will not line in with the rest of the body as much as I'd want them to. It's not horrible, but it's a bit annoying. Other than that, Skids is awesome. one of the best alts out there. I hope Hasbro repaints him eventually. :p

I'd love to see it repainted into Perceptor. The head fits him better than Ironhide IMO.

Skids. He is surprisingly one of the most posable Alt molds there is. Plus, he is unique. One of my favorite Alts.

So...Sunstreaker is now an option since a local Walmart (see topic posted in the TF General Discussion) completely and utterly restocked.

Should I go with him over Skids?

Definitely Skids, he has an awesome robot mode and some of the best articulation of any alternator.

    Seconded!

Skids is a terrible mold and an awful toy and Rollbar is a substandard repaint of an ok toy.

The Subaru is one of the best Alternators out there and Ricochet despite being a repaint does not disappoint and the Reprolable Divebomb stickers make this toy looks incredible and can not recommend highly enough.

Kinda leaning towards Sunstreaker right now as Vipers are one of my absolute favorite cars.

    How's the transformation on him?

Personally I'd invert everything that is said above. You own mileage may vary. In the end, it's your own decision for what looks good.
