Just like it says, which of these "maligned" universes would you prefer as a viable alternative to the 616-universe? No real reason, just something that was sparked by a discussion with a friend of mine today.

I voted Ultimate only because I'm not familiar with the other two.

Of those three, 2099, but Earth X is my favourite Marvel Universe.

Age of Apocalypse. CYCLOPS WAS A BAD ASS! But out of the choices 2099, maybe. I'd really prefer Ultimate pre-Ultimatum though.

Make this two votes for AoA. Apocalypse actually accomplishes something there. XD

Third for the AoA. Hands down the best alternate reality story in the history of comics.

Of those I chose Ultimate Post-Ultimatum, but my Favourite is Earth-58163 aka House of M. Why? because mutants are the dominate species and everything seems great there.

There was no 10th anniversary AoA mini. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a damn dirty liar.

I voted for the 2099 universe, but I second the vote for the House of M reality. Nothing to do with mutants, it's because in that reality Ms. Marvel was Earth's most beloved and most powerful superhero, and she's my favorite Marvel character.

I would vote for a pre-"Ultimatum" Ultimate Universe, but not for post.

Of the given choices, I guess I'd have to go with 2099...

I don't think Marvel's alternate universes are as strong as DC's, but I'd probably have to go with the original 'Age of Apocalypse' universe or the Marvel Zombies universe. They seem to have held up the best over time.

Multiverse (Marvel Comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia gives a fairly comprehensive listing of Marvel's alternate realities and their comic origins (a fair number of them are from the What If? series), but to briefly cover the ones mentioned in this thread so far:

    - 'Ultimate' universe - Universe created several years ago as a 'reboot' of all of Marvel's characters. A major crossover event, Ultimatum, killed off some characters, made some changes to that world and resulted in the cancellation of all titles, with some restarting with new #1 issues.
    - Marvel 2099 - Potential alternate future of the Marvel-616 timeline featuring 'future' versions of Marvel heroes with different secret identities. Had a fair number of titles in the '90s, but only has minimal presence now.
    - Heroes Reborn - Pocket universe created by Franklin Richards after the "Onslaught" event of the '90s. Featured 'rebooted' versions of various characters, all developed by Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld. Source of this infamous Captain America picture, by Rob Liefeld
    - Age of Apocalypse - Splinter timeline branching off Earth 616, created when a time traveler killed Professor X in the past. Major 'event' in the 90s and seemingly destroyed, although it was later brought back for a sequel.
    - House of M - Splinter timeline branching off Earth-616, created when Scarlet Witch altered reality. Another 'event'.
    - Earth X - Alternate universe created by Alex Ross, initially as a sort of "Kingdom Come, but in the Marvel Universe" article for Wizard. Eventually given a trio of limited series.
    - Marvel Zombies - From the group of miniseries of the same name, initially featured interacting with the Ultimate universe.

2099 from the options, but I'd go with Age of Apocalypse. But only if they told the story from the beginning.

And it wasn't just a "time travelor" that killed Professor Xaiver. It was his own son, who went back in time to kill Magneto before he turned evil and ruined Xaiver's dream of a perfect world with humants and mutants. But instead Xaiver sacrificed himself to save Magneto (they were still buddies), and Xaiver's sacrifice led Magneto to form the X-Men in the name of his departed friend, to carry on the dream and legacy he once held.

Apocalypse was able to take over because Xaiver was (before he's been all mind-fucked in the last 200 issues) the strongest telepath alive, even more than Apocalypse, and with his absence nothing could stand in his way - not even Magneto.
