Seriously... these things sell like hotcakes and it seems like its been forever since Broadcast came out. Surely Takara hasn't ran out of molds, there are tons that could be reissued that would be an instant hit. Any of the Dinobots, the rest of the seekers, Mirage, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, Cyclonus, Scourge, the list goes on and on.

And yes I'm aware some molds I listed may have been destroyed.

Does anyone else thing the merge with TOMY may have affected the reissues?

I agree that TOMY had something to do with the line stopping. As soon as the merger happened, they stopped.

And it was weird how TFC 6 Megatron was quietly released to online retailers for almost no reason, even with MP Megatron it felt like it just came out of the blue.

Did Takara have (has?) anything to do with the movie toys at all in the design process? It seems like they arn't really doing much nowadays besides your typical repaints (BW), MP Megatron, and Shoeformers.

Is there any official info anywhere that says which molds are still available and which were lost/destroyed? There are plenty that I'd like to see reissued.

Odds are it's no coincidence. Whilst some TFC items sold well, (in fact some sold out on several runs) others didn't. Kup, Inferno and Stepper moved very slowly.

Response to some other later items was rather muted too. Second hand stories say that early TFC items were almost instant sell outs in Japan, but that later items clogged shelves for an extended period.

On top of that, molds are fragile and heavy. It may not be financially viable for a company to keep them once production at a factory stops and those that are kept either by coincidence, or on purpose may require retooling.

In short, if it was Tomy who made the decision to put the TFC line on hold, it was probably down to money.

Yes, plenty of us think that reissues of Ramjet, Thrust, Ratchet or whoever else would do well, but apparently Tomy aren't convinced.

I'm all for seeing reissues of some of the later Japanese only toys like Overlord, Black Zarak, Dezaras, etc. Surely those would sell well in both the US and Japan. I agree though, there are tons more charachters that would be great to see reissued.

I remember Aaron saying at BC '05 that Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, and Mirage's tools are pretty much gone, and that Soundwave was too but Takara made a new mold from an existing vintage one.

If a decision was made to stop the TFC line (as it appears to be the case), I'd have to blame at least part of the slow sales to the fact that they were targeting the wrong characters in recent releases.

With the exception of Soundblaster, the last few didn't seem like good choices to me, particularly Kup, Wheelie, Perceptor, and Broadcast. There was still a lot of vintage '84 items to get to before those second & third string characters. The rest of the seekers, for example.

It's too bad. By my count, Flipsides is 65 in the backwards counting of the HLJ exclusives, which means they could do 13 more repaints before they filled all of the holes left between series 1 and 2 in Japan's G1.

They didn't start out that expensive, but because the first two series flew off of shelfes, TRU got greedy. They did themselves in, I'm only surprised by how many series they did do before the end.

(Tho, with the sellthru of the Classics Soundwave, we may yet see a few more of them.)
