The toyline was made in Japan and there are more Japanesse Transformers' storylines but wasn't it Hasbro that branded the creation of Transformers for release in the U.S.?

Yeah, that's about right. The original Transformers toys were originally created for two separate Takara toylines, "Diaclone" and "MicroChange". When a Hasbro rep came upon the toys at the Tokyo Toy Fair, he brought the idea back to Hasbro, and the company entered into a partnership with Takara to release the figures in their markets with a newly-created story and universe built around them. After they proved crazy-successful, Takara were all like "Oh SNAP, we need to get in on this!" and ditched their plans for Diaclone in 1895 in favour of importing the Transformers back to Japan. As of 1986, though, there were very few Diaclone or MicroChange toys to re-use, so they started co-producing new toys together. And so it has continued.

Granted, they had also taken toys from other lines, such as Macross and Dorvack, which led to the whole kerfuffle with Skyfire/Jetfire.

Some other notable Transformers "orphans" from other lines are Shockwave and Omega Supreme.

By that point, though, Hasbro and Takara were producing their own designs. And they also hit the USA first.

This post makes my head hurt.

And it's wrong. Toei's Headmasters and Masterforce series came after the US cartoon, and were based on toys developed by Hasbro and Takara, not the other way round.

Though Headmasters and Masterforce did have the last couple of left over Diaclone / Microchange reuses - the Trainbots / Raiden were Diaclone originally, and were a companion piece to the bots that would become Devastator. Masterforce then had Browning, who was one of the Gunrobo from Microchange - the same sub series that Megatron's toy came from.

com on guys stop lying to the kid, everybody knows Transformers came from Cybertron. They did NOT come from Takara or Hasbro or any other companies. They crashed to earth in 1984 from their plant Cybertron.
