Has anyone bought their plane tickets yet? I want to get a gauge on when to do so.

I'm hoping to cash in my free miles for a ticket.

Also when does registration for the con usually start?

This is my first BOTCON so hence all the noobie questions.

I was looking online for tickets. I figured the earlier you get them, the cheaper. But what do I know. I've never bought plane tickets before. I've only ever flown once, and I was like 12 and my dad bought the tickets. I could use some advice too. A flight that lands on thursday morning and another that leaves at 5:30 on Sunday is $344 from here. That's alot. I was hoping to go to the con for about $1,000. Not gonna happen with spending that much just to get there. By the time you figure in hotel and con preregistration, I'd go way over with nothing to spend on toys or food.

I have a question too! I only want to go for one day, which day should I go for?

1)I usually don't book my flight untill 3 months prior. Which in my case as a Canadian works out in my favor

My advice keep track weekly of the plane ticket prices, and use your instincts. If you see a good price online. Jump on it as ticket prices are like playing the lottery. Also consider booking the flight and hotel together as a package. You'll save a couple hundred bucks that way

2)Registration by my estimate should be open by about March or April at latest. Traditionally Registration opens like 3-4 months before the Con itself

Don't worry about being a BotCon noob, we were all one at a time. I asked an ass-load of questions myself in 2003 before my first Convention :)

Man, airline prices vary so damn much, it's freakin' ridiculious! I fly a lot and I've gotten tickets cheap in advance and I've gotten really cheap a few days before. It truly is a gamble! I looked the other day and it cost $400+ to get from the SF area to RI, which I thought was insane, but really that's not so bad since it costs about $300+ to get to Texas (where my family is), so....

My advice? Use google to find all the cheap tickete options you can or try a package deal, although I have yet to try that myself. However, I hear that package deals are often good deals.

I am cashing in my free miles. Free ticket FTW!

And I posted this in TFGD to get a little more exposure, but it's back in the right place now.

Southwest flies directly into Providence. Flights are SUPER cheap! But can't book a flight yet through them. :(

Most likely SFO. For some reason tickets are just cheaper leaving from there.

I was looking yesterday form SFO. I checked United and America Air, did you check any others? It’s too bad there seems to be no direct flights, I’m not to familiar with air travel and would have like to cut out any extra steps.

I only checked United since my miles are with them.

Easiest route I saw was SFO to O'Hare to Providence.

I don't think there are any direct flights to Providence. The closest I think is a direct from here to Boston.

Go on Sunday then, Most of the dealers well deal on that day cause then they will not have to pack it up and take it back with them, friday on the preshow, most dealer would only come down 5 to 10 dollars cause t was the 1st day of the show, and was not ever open to the public.

then it's up to you what is more important to you then, going to the panels, or getting better deals on toys in the dealer room?

The only thing I’m really going to be looking to buy there is a Shockwave. Might pick up other stuff if I see a good price and I haven’t spent to much but I mostly want to go to make a mess of the place.

Yeah, I really doubt I'll have a list of TFs to buy. Maybe a MP Starscream if they're cheap by then.

If I see a complete Liokaiser, however.

There are indeed direct flights. Like I said, I checked American last week and there were a few. And, SFO has better rates, usually, because it's simply a larger airport and has more hubs. Where are you getting these miles from, RW? I wish I had some....I'm not sure I'm going now since it's WAY expensive.
