It is listed on TVShowsOnDVD at Challenge of the GoBots on DVD at TVShowsOnDVD.com if people vote maybe we can a better time slot than never.
Originally, yes they were competition but Go-Bot's names have made it into the Transformers universe. Thus, I thought it was loosely connected to Transformers.
Proof you've never watched them both. Why am I never surprised to see that? Anyway, I put that listing up on tvshowsondvd a few years back and honestly the only way you'll ever see the show on DVD is if I can get the money together to have all of my film reels converted. And when that day does eventually come, you'd better jump quickly because the anti-competition stormtroopers will be paying me a visit in short order.
Go-Bots were soooooooooo lame. But why not a DVD? I wouldn't buy it but I wouldn't be against it either.
Nah, I watched armada since I was a little kid, and watched the whole thing. I had trouble sitting through an episode of gobots.
So you obviously didnt watch the whole series of gobots and therefore prove the above mentioned point!
While I would love to have it.. as its actually a pretty good show with a startling amount of internal continuity.. I doubt it will ever be released on dvd.. I think the fact alone that Go-bots was able to have female characters who weren't pastel or pink and still be feminine says a lot.. While Hasbro owns some of the Names, and the brand Go-bots... They don't own the character likenesses.. And the people who own the character likenesses (bandai) produce Power Rangers.. one of the main competitors for Transformers and I don't see them sharing... So I think the most we can hope for is a few more sporadic Go-bots homages in print and toy form.. Or, barring that.. a Set being produced in a foreign market where Hasbro/AOL Time Warner (Who I would assume owns the cartoon itself since it owns Hanna Barbara's back catalog now)/Bandai wouldn't be able to stop it.. If you don't like the Go-bots cartoon that's fine, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with the Toys.. And to say that Armada is better than Challenge of the Go-bots? I'm having a really hard time believing that..
I wouldn't mind seeing a DVD release. I loved that show as a kid. Though to be fair, back then my only standards were "robots" and "transforming."
I'd imagine the biggest stumbling block(s) to a release of the Gobots cartoon would be getting all the rights and permissions in order, between Hanna-Barbera(Time-Warner?), Hasbro (trademarks and such from Tonka), and Bandai (Machine Robo designs).
