I really, really liked him in the first movie. He was somebody I could have imagined actually being in my high school. In ROTF and DOTM though... Man, they just wrote him so terribly, and his performances were very over the top. The biggest thing that bugs me is his COMPLETE change in direction between the second and third movies. In ROTF, he just wanted to be normal. In DOTM, he suddenly wants to be a hero and save the world again? Why exactly? It completely contradicted his desires from the last film, and I never got it.

He was never my favorite, but the first film was really the only time I didn't mind him, so I chose that.

Never. Sam is the biggest Gary Stu in the entire Transformers franchise. Even Sunbow Daniel Witwickity, Adam Rook/Lazarus, the Armada kids, Kicker, IDW Spike, and Miko are better human characters than him.

DOTM. He felt much more likable and sympathetic in that one. Except when he suddenly had to start screaming his head off when the NEST dickheads stopped his car.

Yeah, because Cade fighting Lockdown in close combat longer than Optimus did isn't Gary Stu like at all.

Always when he did good things (and he was a hero!), but of course often he was quite not brave, hesitant and egoistic, this leaded to big mistakes...

Shia LaBeouf as an actor? Never.

Sam as a character? DOTM. I think detaching from the Autobots during the time period between ROTF and DOTM made him realize that he does want to be part of the fight, and he wants to matter again. Up until then, Sam was kind of shitty when it came to the TFs, but he even kept Wheelie and Brains as pets since he's so connected to the Transformers.

I never did like him. I could care less if we never see him again but something tells me we might.

Approved isn't the right word more like disliked him the least in the first one.

Anyway I bumped this thread because I was curious if anyone else had heard about his troubles the night last week when AOE was released. I think someone posted the article about him getting arrested during a play in New York, but then yesterday I had Wendy Williams on (please don't ask) and she was reporting that, but also reporting that he drunkenly chased a homeless man down for his fries and I guess during the play he was smoking and talking shit to the actors on stage. I about died when I heard all that french fry stuff, what the hell is wrong with this guy?

Never really liked him- though I was fond of how he was always the squealy squeamish one, and his girlfriends were the ones to save him and kick ass. Very much approve.

I actually enjoyed most of the other humans a lot more than the "main" character of Sam himself. His parents were a delight, his girlfriends were way above his paygrade, and Lennox and Epps were awesome.

I was relieved Sam wasn't in the 4th movie.

Well. Hating on Shia is popular these days and I know he does indeed deserve a lot of it, but the Transformers movies were my first exposure to him and I liked the guy in them. I thought he had good comedic timing and wasn't the traditional Hollywood leading man type of guy. And although the execution was sometimes lacking I think they had good ideas for his arc touching on some of those key moments of growing up. First car and girlfriend. Starting college. Getting that first job. Saving the world. You know the basics.

okay thanks I only come in here probably should have checked there

I liked him in the first one but he got more annoying to me as the series went on. I just feel bad for him now though and hope he gets the help he needs.
