    Seriously, when?

I just went to Ebay to price him out as I'd been kicking around the idea of getting him again since it looks like I'll be buying more Masterpiece figs and was shocked to see him going for $200 or more for both versions.

Looks like I may be holding off on getting him after all and just wait and see if he's reissued again but wow....$200.

Prices on Ebay for MP figures can get ugly, unless it's Skywarp. :)

Yeah, Skywarp's really no big deal to find right now, especially if you factor TFW into things (I've seen him plenty of times for like 25-40) on here. Plus, when Shelflife gets into full swing, we'll ideally have yet another venue that presents itself with plenty of plastic goodness.

I'm sure he'll get a reissue at some point. Just depends if you want to wait or not.

I just looked and while some crazy people are paying $200, some have gone for as little as $100 - $130.

MP Grimlock didn't really follow traditional economics... The market was cool, then then second run was announced, which heated the market and caused the price to jump (I think the price was the same as the first run, but the exchange rate was significantly less favorable).

So MISB ones, which could once be had for like $120 (I think I paid $100 for mine, MIB) and the TRU one ($90, and it hung out at that price for a while) were suddenly $145... And for whatever reason the market was alright with that. Increased supply, increased price, increased demand.

So now that supply is scarce again, the price is going up. Since there aren't too many differences between the two (and they cater to people looking for different things), the prices are rising together, rather than one version outpacing the other.

But as far as I can tell, it was the second run's fault.

Well, it's not fair comparing him to skyward. Skywarp was a walmart figure, so there was an over supply of them. Not to mention, they were clearances at $25. Grimlock never saw any clearance.

I remember having a tru grimlock, got it just to help out a fellow collector (no one in paticular). I only wanted the retail price plus taxes paid and shipping (i think, something like 80.xx plus shipping). Had it up in the sales section for like 2 weeks... no takers. ended up taking it back to tru.

MP Grimlock was released in 09 and was reissued again probably due to demand. I doubt he will be reissued again, unless it's been announced? TBH I'm surprised it's taken this long for prices to hit 200, since so many loved this guy, one would expect that people will pay more for him when supply is low. Whilst MP-08 has seen an increase, the comic-color exclusive Grimlock has become even more expensive than last time I saw it, around 400USD...

IIRC, Takara reissued it last year, and it went from the original price of circa $140 to $175 anyway.

There's a bunch of factors which make the toy sought after, even if you're not really a Masterpiece completionist.

I knew I should have snagged one when it was on sale 2 years ago :(  I'm also thinking about it, but it seems it's gone up because of the renewed interest in the MP line and the expected diversity down the line.

Very much this. Now that people are seeing Hasbro/TakaraTomy doing multiple figures this year people are qeueing up now for past, present and upcoming figures.

I still see the Hasbro versions in some Toys R US stores in the UK. Same with Rodimus.

yeah he's what got me posting frequently on the boards back in 2010ish. couldn't find one for the life of me so decided to ask the locals. by the weekend after I posted, one of the local chicago guys had already found a location for me that was only about a half hour drive, so I hopped in my car and went to scoop him up. who woulda thought the boards were a valuable resource? :D

really one of my favorite figures. I'd say it's one of those figures that the price tag really doesn't matter, he's that perfect. but I will say I was extremely happy paying the 69.99 mine rang up.
