Mine is the year 1987. As a kid I really loved the Headmaster gimmick and the new characters served as great reinforcements from Cybertron. So, what's your favourite G1 year?

I guess '85; the expansion of the original toy lineup, but before all the "space" type vehicles that began to arrive with the '86 animated film, which personally I never liked as much as the earth mode disguises (Cyclonus and Hot Rod being the exceptions).

'84. Those will always be the characters I think of when someone mentions Transformers. They were my childhood.

It's tough between '84 and '85, but I had to go with '85 just for the fact that you got all the '84 characterizations in the show PLUS all the new guys and combiners at the end of the season.

Edit: Of course now I realize we're in the TF Toy section. I was born in '83. So... yeah.

For me, it had to be '87. Prime was resurrected like the robo-Jesus he is, Headmasters were in full force, and some of the best G1 figures came out at this time: Scorponok, Fortress Maximus, and the rest of the Headmasters. I just always loved that era, even though TFs were dying out as a brand at the time...

1987-1990 were my favorite years. If you want me to single out my absolute favorite, though, it would have to be '88.

I vote 2006, when the Classics toys came out. If those toys had been out in the 80's, I would've thrown away all of my G1 toys.

I can't single out one year. I confess, though, I REALLY liked the movie and season 3 toys. Between a friend I had back then and myself, we had the three Decepticon animal Headmasters (not the triple-changers), and I LOVED that gimmick... I always wanted some of the Autobots, but never ended up getting any. The Jr. Headmasters were cool, but they lacked the charm of the bigger ones, sadly.

I liked the Targetmasters, too - I'd rank them 2nd to the bigger Headmasters and above the Jr. Headmasters. I remember having Pointblank, and borrowing (and never returning, purely by accident) Sureshot... oddly enough, I thought that they were about as cool as the smaller targetmasters. I think. This was a long time ago, though.

So very hard to choose. Each year had it's own magic.

    First Place: 1991
The UK comic was reprinting the Unicron Saga/Matrix Quest.

Actionmasters were making characters like Shockwave and Blaster available to us Europeans.

The original TF classics meant I completed the Stunticons, Combaticons and Protectobots and picked up classics like Sideswipe, Springer and Wheeljack.

    2nd place: 1992
Everyone else stopped collecting Transformers and I arrived several collections for nothing. Ended up with around 180 TF's. Strangely, I'd stop collecting myself. Not so much the toyline dwindling, moreso the UK comic finally ending. The fiction really made it for me.

    3rd place: 1987
Scorponok for Christmas. Snapdragon for birthday. Saw the Movie in the cinema.

Probably 1984, although 1985 is a close second.

Tie between 84 and 85. But I voted 85 since that's when the Dinos were released.

well i would have to say mine was 86. The best g1 years were 84-87. 86 had the best line of g1 transformers like Trypticon, metroplex, sky lunx, and all those combiners.

I say 85 easy, because we got the original line up and the season two reinforcments. 1985 is the most iconic roster of bots and cons ever.
I got them all loose BTW except for the deluxe insecticons, fuck those guys. lol

    Another vote for 84.

Not necessarily because it was the first year, and it doesn't necessarily contain the largest amount of my favorite toys, but it was the only year where every toy epitomised the "Robots in disguise" theme.

By 1985, the luster of the line was already fading a little for me. Yes, there were some cool toys, but a robot dinosaur that turns into a robot... not much of a disguise really.
