Everybody says the First Edition is so superior. Like, it's a god tier Transformer, one of the best. But I was looking at the Powerizer version the other day in-package, and I had some hands-on time with a friend's copy, and I seriously do not see how he's any less of a toy. He has a more accurate transformation and beautiful proportions in both modes. Paint oddities and weird weapons aside, why do people dislike him so much?

I knew people liked FE better, but I didn't know he was disliked. I like him, and have seen some very nice gun mods to make the stupid weapon actually look good.

The cape on the back could be better executed and the arms need to be not blue. Other than that, I'm fine with the figure. He just needs better weapons than the crap he comes with.

A few paint touch-ups and a gun mod later it is just as good.

Backpack. It's a huge step backwards after getting the FE one.

Paint oddities and weird weapons. The backpack doesn't help too much, either.

Hollow legs, clear blue arms, missing a ton of red on the chest and dat backpack. Not bad though, I got mine for $15 and hes a pretty decent toy.
Oh yeah, and the gun which could have been decent if it wasnt electronic and could lock.

Certainly not the awful piece of junk people make him out to be. But like with Bulkhead, a lot of the detractors spent about $100 on the FE version and jump at a chance to tell you that the thing you paid a fraction of the price for is garbage. Whatever makes them feel better, I guess.

I have no beef with the RID one. I have both, the RID one is funner as a toy even if it's not as accurate.

    >Crappy translucent plastic
    >Even crappier weapons
    >Kibble cape
    >Ugly 5mm holes in forearms
    >Hollowed out legs
    >Chest area isn't as accurate; windows angled wrong and light parts aren't as big
    >Super deformed looking alt mode

All that for the only advantage being a transformation that doesn't cheat as much. And even then the FE is engineered better because it keeps an accurate alt mode and a kibbleless, full looking, more accurate robot mode, which the RiD fails to do with the legs and hanging backpack. The FE transformation is also pretty simple. The PRiD looks like garbage unmodified; and customized it looks better but still inferior.

Some folks judge him by how his chest and arms look and completely ignore how fun the toy is. I think he's actually a good bit better than Megatron.

Other than the weapon, I'm perfectly happy with him.

I find generally speaking there's no middle ground for a lot of fans; He's not quite as good as the FE so he's a festering pile of crap that should never have been made, and whoever designed it should be dragged into the street and shot.

Similar with a lot of other figures (e.g. Bumblebee, Arcee, Starscream, Bulkhead...) or a horribly transformed Hasbro stock pic made a terrible first impression and they've never looked at it again to see it fixed (Knockout.)

I think Powerizer Prime is an okay figure. It's nothing great, but it's not bad either. Pretty average. Meanwhile, the FE version is pretty much superior in every way.

It's sort of like having a very average looking girlfriend. She's not ugly, but you wouldn't necessarily call her hot. She gets the job done, ya know? But the whole time you're with her, you know there's this dime piece model type girl who you could totally be with if you'd put forth a little more effort. Therefore, while you're dating the average girl, you'll always be comparing her with that hot chick you could theoretically have.

    /\Yikes. That is incredibly shallow.

I have both, and greatly prefer the FE mold. The Powerizer is a really good toy, but as a collectable figure, it falls short.
For me, the chest and cape are the deal breakers. Sure, the chest doesn't cheat, but the show-accuracy is sacrificed. The cape looks silly and also compromises the accuracy.
I know show accuracy isn't as important to some, but once you have the FE in your hands, the RiD version just isn't good enough.

BTW- which one will you most likely end up finding at a thrift store within a year?

That's not really a fair thing to say.

Of course the FE won't. It was cancelled.

Not in Canada. As I remember, it was rather plentiful for awhile.

I don't hate the toy I just don't like the cape and blue arms. His weapon however I DO hate, but that remains true for all of the voyager sized weapons, not just his.

No, of course not, but until the announcement about it being cancelled in NA, it was all over the place in Canada, Asia and in some parts of Europe.

I think these are the main complaints people have about him. Those are the knocks against him that I would have mentioned as well (particularly the lack of any red on the chest). And he's a bit smaller, which some folk dislike.

He's certainly not a bad toy, though, especially if you go with the Takara version and get the cool mini-Shockwave in place of his cruddy US light-up weapon.

I do still prefer the FE version; the detail and intricacy of its sculpt looks classier and feels like a more high-end toy. Plus it is almost entirely kibble-free, which is cool. Then again, it's transformation cheats more, so, you know... pros and cons....
