Texas girls hoops team seeks forfeit of 100-0 win - Yahoo! News

The only thing i want to know is if they let the 3rd string play and they still managed to keep the other team scoreless.
if 3rd stringers could keep the heat on, then why seek an apology or give away a game?

there's sportsmanship, and then there's allowing an inferior team to guilt ya into a loss.

The article does mention, via a quote from a parent, that The Covenant School continued to use a full court press and shoot three pointers into the 4th quarter. That's really unnecessary, particularly a full court press, when you're up by that much. That sort of thing isn't even condoned in the NBA.

yeah that's just ridiculous. 100-0 is unacceptable. They should be ashamed.

    This.

"A victory without honor is a great loss" is just stupid.

My High School's girl's team once won a game by like 101-3, and I happened to be there when it occurred. The 3 points on the other team were made free throws. What makes this win special is that neither team had won a game all season, and this win was the only one our girl's team got all year, I believe. There was no "remorse" by our team, nor was there rage on the other team--just a lot of crying. It was a game, and the "better" team won.

No sorry. How is playing to your full extent bad sportsmanship? I believe taking it easy on the other team because you're winning is far more of an insult.

Winning or losing at High School is entirely irrelevant.

The important thing to ask is, 'Are the Girls hot?'

The girls basketball team I coached last year lost two games, both around 96-6.

sounds like one team is full of sore losers.. If it is half time and you are down by about 50ish points and haven't scored yet, forfeit. Don't continue to play then whine and complain because you sucked and demand you won because the other team massacred you. That is rather childish.

The important thing to ask is "How old are the girls?" THEN "Are the girls hot?"

Guys, it isn't winning if someone's losing.

I'd say it's more dishonourable to lose and then whine like a bitch about it, than win by playing to your full ability.

I don't know. Nothing's wrong with winning, but except in combat, there's no real reason to demolish your opponent.

Once you've definitively demonstrated that you're the better team, why add insult to injury? Keep the other team scoreless, sure, but aggressively running up the score is unnecessary and unsportsmanlike.
    Why?

I guess im on both sides. If I won hard like that, I would'nt rub it in their faces,
but I would go over to a few of our fans and say 'make em cry'

Apparently everyone in this thread who sees nothing wrong with the 4th quarter press was super popular in HS and loved by everyone? Never picked on or bullied? Oh wait, probably not?

We're talking about children here getting their little hearts crushed people, PUBLICLY. 15, 16, 17 year olds. WTF is wrong with you mutants that you can't see what's wrong with that?

The coaching staff screaming and cheering as the other team gets ridiculously trounced is absolutely horrible behavior. Coupled with the final quarter push, and as mineraljane said, that sort of behavior isn't acceptable at the pro level so how could anyone at the HS think it was either? HS basketball is not just about winning, it's about CHILDREN learning and being taught amongst other things teamwork, humility and sportsmanship - one of those things that some people on that court clearly haven't been taught well yet.

It's not about winning, it's about how you did it. How can anyone be so daft that they don't see the difference?
