Flattop's a MICROMASTER. Of course he needs something to augment his strength.

The Decepticons we've seen in the Movie-verse are, for the most part, large.

They decepticons flew inside aircraft because they changed writers, it's that simple. Orci and Kurtzman didnt think robots that could become vehicles would fly in other crafts. I guess ass clown, "cough", I mean Kruger, disagreed with their philosophy.

Fighter craft would provide protection, as Bumblebee, Carly, and an unfortunate Decepticon showed.

That was the shuttle inside the ark, ie beast wars season 3. That was not the Ark, no matter what Kruger wants to call it.

Also the fact that it'd be easier to just have the deceptijets then to have to animate them to transform into robots. Less parts to move around.

Point is, Transformers have been using vehicles for quite some time. Not sure why Orci/Kurtzman are geniuses for not going that direction, and Kruger is an ass clown because he did.

Asking why Transformers use vehicles is like asking us why we use vehicles when we can just walk. Especially in military settings.

I'm talking about the one 'man' fighter craft, not capital ships.

Protoform Cons have been shown to fly much like Ravage. Essentially guided missiles.

For Optimus to fly in ROTF he needed mechanical parts. In DOTM its a flight tech trailer he has.

The movies were going for some correspondence in tech.

    Ark-Nemesis, Xantium-Decepticon Mothership, Flight Tech-Fighter.

I know, but I want Decepticon soldier figures, and I want the fighters in the main toyline, so I think it makes sense to have generic Decepticon soldier figures that turn into the fighters.

Well there was Jetfire and, to a lesser extent, Blackout and Grindor.

I personally think it's cool that only certain TFs can fly. After all, being a flier has it's disadvantages. Look at Starscream - his body is designed to be agile in the air, but this makes him clumsy on the ground. I'd wager flying uses a lot more energy as well. So it's kind of a trade-off.

Those Drone-ships seemed to be also quite efficient for maneuvers [much more than any other kind of ship, both TF and Human], had a greater amount of firepower [a Protoform can kill one person by shot, this Drone-Ship could kill about ten/twenty people in a range of ten foot beyond that] and most importantly: protected the Protoforms driving it as well.

As you can see on that ship the Wreckers took down, The Protoform Pilot emerged unscathed from an otherwise deadly blast [and was subsequently killed, but that's beside the point]: All because of the Drone-Ship, if he were simply going "COWARD KILLIN' TIME!" he would have been killed by that shot.

    I think it's pretty useful.

Exactly what I thought. They may just pack more punch than the bot alone. Could they have been "Seekers" (in a G1 sense) sure, but I don't think it really impacts anything showing the fighter craft. Like an earlier poster said, it was a plot device in the end anyway.

I don't understand this. I mean, Shockwave "rode" around in the driller, until Prime showed up, he seemed pretty powerful.

Maybe those cons were ground shock troopers. Besides if you are equating their re-entry modes as a flight mode, I disagree. That's not flying, it's falling . . . . with style

Last time I checked, that's what the Autobot's (and Hasbro) stated that's what it was.

^This. They wanted to show that a crew of comprise with members of this advanced alien race actually has the technology to arrive at a destination without carpet bombing it's surface.

I'm pretty sure Prime was the one that shot it down, the shots were coming from his direction

Still larger than Micromasters, at any rate.

Not sure what you're trying to say here.

All I'll say is that I thought the Driller was a lame concept.
