They're usually an exclusive or a little more rare.

    I love 'em.

Most likely. Which one are you looking for? I pre-ordered the TFA Rodimus that is "suppose" to be clear for something like $55.

The clear EZ collection figures are FREE if you purchase a toy from the shops. And they don't sell them separately (at least not now).
Hard to know how much others will charge you for them. :D

People buy them, so Takara keeps making them.
There really isn't anything else to it.

As far as I know, the Rodimus will be a DLX size and his color will be...well clear. It might have a similiar color scheme like Ghost Starscream. The Optimus Prime figure hasn't been confirmed yet as an Activator, DLX, or Voyager.

    Can anybody confirm or clarify?

Atleast the newer translucent figures are better quality than the older ones - I've heard that the translucent Car Robots Brothers are guaranteed to turn a smoky/yellow colour over time... :/

Where do you draw to this conclusion. All plastics is clear. Dye is added to add the degree of color needed.

You're welcome. I would definitely consider it; it'd be a nice addition to any collection IMO. Hopefully at Botcon I'll be able to pick up the clear G1 Hot Rod. That'd be nice!

Its not a takara thing. Other toy companies like Bandai also adore clear plastics. I do too :D .

No, it's true. The normal, more opaque ABS plastic has much more flex than the typical clear type. Ball joints sockets cast in translucent plastic are notorious for pretty much cracking immediately, whereas the opaque stuff gets stress marks at worst.

You can definitely see it in cases like RiD Prowl's doors. You can tell that the plastic is much more rigid and harder, compared to the normal ABS plastic.

just the idea of putting a ghost starscream or clear Mirage on a base that has an LED in it to shine up and through the figure makes my mouth water with excitment.
then my wallet bitch slaps me and i just have to wait.

there's a clear optimus out, but i am not too sure the plastic quality is all that good.
i wouldn't get him personally because he is ALL clear.
the little highlights of color on Starscream makes him all the more impressive and eerily awesome in good lighting.
