So I was looking at Sol Fury's sig just moments ago, and it hit me. Jumpstarters are a dime a dozen. Thing is, these are 20 year old toys. They must have produced and sold a ton of these things for there to be so many still available. They are plentiful and cheap. I got a MIB Twintwist for less than the price of a Cybertron Deluxe. I guess my dilema is this: everyone seems to hate the jumpstarters, but why? Obviously this was not always the case. We must have loved them back in the day or there wouldn't be so many around.

my hypothesis would be the following.

jumpstarters evolved and learned to procreate.

I'm indifferent. Don't HATE them nor do I really care for them. I guess it is because the auto transform. Takes the joy out of the toy..

Twin Twist is joy sucking bastard..

I er, actually like Jumpstarters. In fact, in the past few years I've added several to my collection from Brazil and Argentina. I like the different colors and in some cases different weapons. The two I have from Argentina are G2 Decepticons! True, these aren't my favorite Transformers, but I have no ill feelings against the Jumpstarters.

    :lol !

I don't hate the Jumpstarters either...I had topspin as a kid and I remember not playing with it as much because it was so boring to transform. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Jumpstarters last because they are boring toys. They didn't get played with and sat at the bottom of the toy box, preserved by their lonely tears.

I expect that Jumpstarters, having relatively few parts due to the simplistic transformation, might have been cheaper to produce. Perhaps that's why there are so many of them (including those foreign ones in odd colors).

I actually know someone who made it their goal to get all the jumpstarters?!?! He has lots and lots of them. Some of you probably know him. He manages a well known website for variations.

Well it certianly cheaper than trying to collect all G1 Dreadwinds!

Jumpstarters were an interesting concept, but they take all the fun out of a transforming toy... kind of like why Cyb Override isn't that popular.

I like Wreckgar's explanation in the Civil War thread of the Fuzzy World best: they all come from a black hole in a Collector's Attic. He manages to sell off one box, but as if by magic, a new one appears!

I'm going to be a party pooper and give actual reasons.

    1) Jumpstarters were fairly big toys for their price. They were noticeable larger than the Minibots, and they came in a box instead of a card, but they were only like 5 bucks. So a lot of people got them. When I went to friends houses as a kid, even if they weren't really into Transformers, they ALWAYS had a Jumpstarter. It was like the one Transformer everybody had.

    2) They are one of the few G1 Transformers that are resiliant as shit. It's HARD to break a Jumpstarter, unlike 99% of the rest of the 84/85 guys. You have to really be determined to break these guys. There are a lot of them still around because even if they made a similar amount to, say, Prowl, there are a lot less Prowls around because of the brittle windshield breaking.

    3) That nutty guy with all the Dreadwinds originally tried hording Jumpstarters for years but gave up for something easier and flooded the market with them.

    :)

i fear that a concentrated collection of jumpstarters would become so dense, collapsing upon itself into a blackhole of plastic, exerting gravity that prevents suckitude to escape, creating a rift in the fabric of time-space itself.

    where is your god now?
