I've seen some mixed reviews about this add-on. I've heard that the quality matches that of Fansproject (even rumors that MT is FP), but also some minor cons such as the head and what not.

I guess my question is that is this piece worth picking up as? I know it's to each their own, but in this case I would like to get a general consensus on how well this piece is put together before I drop the 100$.

I got mine yesterday WITH THE NEW HEAD. Admittingly I had enough time to only admire the box but it looks pretty.

So the only verdict I can currently give is GREAT PACKAGING. lol

^ Are both heads usable with the G2 Prime neck ball? Or does the 2nd require the new ball joint/neck stem?

If by chance it doesn't, and there might be anyone with a spare head they don't want/need, please feel free to PM me.

I think the ball joint is to replace any that may have broken off. As I said I haven;t opened it yet but I always assumed that the new head would just screw on the old ball joint. I hope so, it would such if I had to snap off the old, drill a whole and add the new.

Robot mode with the full armor is just awesome. Alt mode is decent, but then again, it's basically a tanker, no surprises there. Everything stores away pretty nicely (except for the extra drift sword, but that was a bonus anyway). The only downside for me is a tricky swivel joint that basically supports half the weight of the tanker armor; I keep worrying that it's going to break. The tight ratchets don't help my peace of mind, either.
After owning it for a while, I think it would have been easier to swallow had it been about 20-30 bucks cheaper.

The new head is usable with the ball joint on the G2 Prime. I didn't bother with the originally attended MAKETOYS head, I used the one with the screw and it works fine.

What's up with that anyway? I can't think of any advantage to using two different names. Two separate groups using one manufacturer I could picture, but not 1:1 the same group.

I think the figure looks good, but the Articulation on the figure is complete crap once you have him all powered up. Pretty much too heavy to put into any good poses and his arms won't go up to high either.

I am pretty disappointed by it to be honest. I really wish it had more articulation.

BTW, for the people bitching about the head. My Optimus, out of the wrapper had stress marks by the ball joint. So I don't think FP, opps, I mean Maketoys is to blame for this.

FP = manga influeces designs of G1 characters

MT= More of a direct copy of G1 characters with modern engineering.

The theory is if MT gets busted for making complete IP theft items FP will not be effected and FP designs make it harder for Hasbro to attack them.

The set is great, mine's on the shelf next to my G2 Laser Prime, & I'm thrilled with it. Mine was from before they announced the "Head Refurbishment Kit", but I have had no issues with the boiled head.

That said, the original head had to be boiled to soften it up for placement on the RTS figure's neck balljoint. When people reported breakage of the balljoint while trying to install the new head, MakeToys took it upon themselves to 'fix' the issue by producing the new head, which is now 2 parts held together with a screw (much like the original RTS Prime's)... The extra neck balljoint is a repair for those people who broke theirs, though it requires a drill (to drill out the old peg) & ABS cement (to glue the new one into place)...

So, any orders that come out now will include the new head kit. I'd recommend skipping the original head completely & use the 2-part one that comes in the baggie... :)

That makes sense if we're looking at the MT minibots, but I don't think Giant is any more of a direct copy than the Insecticons. Also, under that theory, the battle tanker should be a FP project.

I'm just sharing the theory lol

But I would say Giant is way more Devastator than Hercules is.
MT's The Fallen is pretty much a toy version of the comic character.

But I agree the Battle Tanker is more of an FP thing. Maybe it was thrown in there to try and make the trail cold. lol

I think it's a really great set. I've been playing with it for a few days straight now. I'm not sure if it's worth the price but, still really great.

Who knows! I don't buy it just yet, but weirder things happen.

On the original toy, or on the armor hands?
