Pretty much every time we have a thread about someone complaining how much modern TF's cost these days, you'll inevitably have someone from a non-US country pointing out that they already cost more where they are and that the US members should stop whining.

Thing is, a lot of people don't realise that shelf-edge US prices are before sales tax, whereas the prices in other countries (the UK, for example) often include it. For example, the standard UK price of a deluxe is £13 / $21, but once you take account for the 20% VAT that's actually £10.40 / $16.75. I know that different US states have different levels of sales tax, but could US members post some standard TF prices that you actually pay at the till so we have more of a baseline comparison?

If you take a $17.99 deluxe (K-Mart's price), PA's 6% sales tax turns it into a $19.07 purchase. Our online shopping has historically not included tax on the basis of 50 states having 50 rates but that's ending as states get desperate for revenue.

I dunno about other states, but here in Nevada, our sales tax varies by county. Here in Las Vegas sales tax is 8.1%.

So basically, a deluxe that costs $15 before tax, will cost 16.22 after tax. (I dunno exact costs off the top of my head, so that's just an example.)

Transformers at Wal-Mart I think are $15.47 and Oklahoma tax is something like 8.85%. That's close to $17 for a deluxe. I'm not 100% sure on the tax rate but it's pretty close to that. Voyagers would be near $24, unless you got them at TRU than probably closer to $30.

Thank you I've never really paid much attention to theses price type post but you have cleared a lot up for fellow members I hope...

Yea taxes vary state by state. I'm not sure if OR is still a no sales tax state but it really confused a friend of mine from there when he visited me and had to pay like $1.07 for a $.99 pop lol.

Springfield Missouri is 7.60%. That's a combination of the state sales tax of 4.225%, the City sales tax of 2.125% and the County sales tax rate of 1.250%. I guess its different in every county and city too.

With a 9% sales tax it's around $17. This is why I rarely buy new deluxes these days.

8% here in Alabama, which makes the WM $15.47 price come out at $16.70 total. Which the bugs the hell out of me because that's approaching the $20 Voyager price point that has yet to change.

    15.49 * 0.0875 (8.75% sales tax here in California) = 16.845
