Looking for the best quality '86 movie rendition possible.
What is it?
You mean which dvd is better quality? I have the one with the movie poster as the cover it's pretty good quality, but the special features suck. I borrowed the 2 disc one(prime w/ matrix cover) from my friend, it was better quality not that much noticeable though. Special features were pretty good though.
I agree, the one released just before TFTM is the best. A lot of good extra features there.
Is there a newer Higher Quality release planned for dvd in near future?
Minus the BLU bobby Rae joe please.
Is the Blu-Ray based off the remastered Anniversary edition DVD?
If it is, it might just become my first Blu-Ray purchase.
Surely since the original filmstock was fairly low quality, and was then cleaned up a bit for DVD, you're not gaining much in the Blu-Ray in terms of image quality beyond some upscaling?
I'd be most interested in whichever release has the best Special Features - excessive numbers of commentaries being one of my favorite things. Along with raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, obv.
the sony anniversary dvd is pretty good. they have the updated 'dare to be stupid' biker scene, which the rhino and chinese sets do not.
Older films aren't upscaled when released on Blu-Ray. Film stock holds much more information than any digital format. The UK Blu-Ray release is crisper and cleaner than any version released so far. It doesn't suffer from the interlacing and artifacting problems that many of the DVD versions suffer from. But it also shows, in greater detail, many of the animation and compositing mistakes that were made in '86.
Joe, wasn't the Blu Ray Release a UK exclusive? If that is the case, can I watch it on my Blu Ray player here in the states?
As far as DVD's go, I like the 20th anniversary release form Sony./ Lots of special features, though the movie itself looks the to be the same quality as the Rhino release.
It is a UK release, but it is a region free disc. I own it and play it in my PS3 here in the states. The good thing about the Blu-Ray releases is that most are region free and will play i nany player. Just watch out for some 20th Century Fox (and subsidiary company) releases from overseas. They tend to be region locked, but pretty much everything else is playable here.
However, I can not recommend the '86 movie Blu-Ray for anything other than the video quality. The audio quality isn't the best and there is not a single special feature.
Definitely the Sony 20th Anniversary edition of the 1986 movie is the best.
I don't have Blu-Ray, so I can't tell you if that's any good.
Dude, it's been remastered. Did you not see the special feature that compared the older release of the film with the remastered version?
i totally agree. altho, the rhino version makes the movie more gritty and gives it an overall darker feel to it. amazing how remastering can effect the feel of a movie.
i watch the rhino version, i feel like i'm in a movie theater.
i watch the sony version, and it's the most clean and crisp version out there.
i watch the chinese version, and the junkion bike scene makes me feel like i'm in a theater. a chinese theater =)
can we expect a 25th anniversary dvd for the movie?
I speculate shout factory is planning to do the 86 transformers movie on DVD in 2010.
They have already told hisstank they plan to do the 80s gijoe movie next year, as its not included with the tv series foot locker. so transformers seems like a great possibility to have at the same time.
Yeah, I saw the special, but by just looking, I can't tell the difference.
I hope they do rerelease The Movie next year. I'm getting the Matrix of Leadership box set for Christmas, but the 20th Anniversary DVD is out of print and new ones run $60 and up.
What was the difference?
