I'm starting to go retro and listening to vinyl records again, so what's a good turntable/record player that I could get (good brand, etc)?

I can recommend the Technics SL-1200mk2 for vinyls. But I really don't know much about vinyls as I use CDs instead of vinyls to DJ. You might wanna PM DeathsheadII or Murasame about this as they are more experienced in vinyls and turntables.

What is this "record player" that you speak of.

It's funny though,I showed my kids a cassette a while back and they didn't have a clue what it was.

as starscream600 says get yourself a technics but a 1210! have a look on ebay they go relatively cheap these days due to alot of people going digital...good solid turntables that last forever and sound great especially if you have a decent cartridge on the tone arm! a stanton 500/500al would probably be good enough for just listening to vinyl and also not that expensive

Then you should know that a DJ recently broken the world record for the world's longest mix. He mixed non-stop for 7 days.

The technics is like the AK-47 of turntables. It will not let you down.

Another option would be one of the various USB turntables available at computer shops everywhere.

I actually heard a lot of bad stuff about those USB turntables when I was buying my CDJs... Don't know if it's true, anyway just to let you know.

I didn't say they were great, but they're pretty cheap, and you wouldn't have to worry about setting up an entirely new stereo system, so it wouldn't be a huge outlay or project if he's undecided on how "into" turntables he wants to get.

But yeah, your mileage may vary with stuff like that, especially dependant on where you get it.

    Ebay:
Best Buy sells a Sony model that my wife bought me 5 years ago. Best $99 we've ever spent.
