I would say G1 Fort Max, but I really don't know.

CRITERIA- ALL TRANSFORMERS RELEASED TO US OR FOREIGN RETAIL, BASICALLY THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

Depends on your criteria for what you count. There are "unreleased" transformers with a handful of production samples that were made as well as "lucky draw" prize transformers with only triple/double/single digit numbers made.

well you really need to specify if you only want those that were actually released considered, or if any TF is fair game and if production samples count

That's such a tough question. Everybody will have a different answer depending on their own collection probably.

    RoTF Wheelie.

He's very, very rare,... if you don't reside on planet Earth.

It depends on how you define "rare". Some people define rare as "expensive", I define rare has "hard to find". I generally regard the blue Diaclone Bluestreak as the rarest Transformer EVER! He's at least on par with a blue Swoop, "ridged" Grimlock or that Sludge thing with the wings.

Depends. One could say the Prototype Animated Leader Meg's that was put up on ebay. I would say anything that's a one-off is the rarest.

But there are so many one-offs, which one is the one-est-off-est? I'd guess it'd be something older, something before ebay, probably rotting in a rhode island landfill.

Eh, my money's still on original Diaclones. Even lucky draws seem to show up on ebay more frequently than Diaclones. And I wouldn't count figures that haven't hit mass retail (like the Lucky Draw figs) that only have a limit run of less than 100.

The Autobot dinosaur cassettes? I would say they are the hardest non-lucky draw bots to find.

The (hideously coloured) Binaltech Meister, Swoop linked to, is the rarest (or at the least joint rarest) since there is only one.

I was thinking of this one myself.

However, if we are going mass retail release it would depend what part of the world you live in. What shelfwarms in one area may not show up in another. Here, pretty much anything that is released towards the end of a line tends to be rare
