Customs: What would be your base figure if you were doing IDW designed characters?

    'Sup Fellas,
I'm sucker for anything remotely resembling the designes seen in IDW comics, but some of those thing are so complex, with Drift as the exception, it seems Hasbro/Takara has shied away from attempting them. But if any of you were to take up the challenge what existing figures would you use as a basis (80% or more of) if you were to do a custom of:

Sentinel Prime as he appeared in Megatron Origins:[IMG]

Hmm there seems to be a slight difference in his look. I could be wrong but I think I see a lot of Ultra-class Universe Countdown figure at least in the legs and few other parts. Does anyone else?

    Nova Prime:

I know it does not look exactly the same but I think in some of later look after he came back from the Dead Universe as Nemesis Prime, his head looked a lot like the Japanese Big Convoy's/Universe Nemesis Prime vs. 1's.

and last but not least - MEGATRON 3.0:

that was seen last year. wow I think I see, possibly some Gundam parts here and there.

    What are your thoughts fellas:cool:

A Nova Prime custom exists, the creator used a Cybertron Optimus and a zillion other parts from various figures to make him.

There were even plans for a limited 3rd party production of a modified design based off of the custom, but nothing ever came of it.

Also, this belongs in Radicon Creative Discussion.

I don't know if it would fit together. But I imagine that you could take for Sentinel Prime some parts of Classics Voyager Prime, Head of Big Convoy, parts of either Armada Optimus or Energon Rodimus and some parts of Energon Shockblast.

But that's just my imagination. I have never seen those toys in person...

Nova Prime could be achieved by heavily retooling Energon Rodimus as a whole. The transformation and alt mode is nearly the same.

Easy routes for these would be Gundam model kits/parts (especially for Sentinel Prime), Energon Rodimus & maybe Classics Prime (kitbashed into one kick ass figure) for Nova Prime, & ROTF Mindwipe for IDW Megatron. My friend Miko was working on one from that very mold--here's a link: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/346188-shadow-blade-megatron-wip.html (not sure if he was the first to do it, but I think he may have been)

"Boards" on the home page, then down to "Creative", and there is "general discussion"

It seems odd, but that's only because there is a shortcut to radicons on the home page.

Just posting to say that Sentinel Prime's shoulder Armor could easily be made from a 1/100 Gundam Avalanche Exia's parts, and that should be in scale (roughly) to an Ultra Class Countdown/CD Red Alert.

Megatron has been made from Mindwipe so many times it's not even funny anymore.

Nova Prime is just Energon Rodimus with Strike Freedom (Gundam) wings attached.

it's funny you should mention that figure. I'm thinking about getting that mold, on the cheap, to use for scrap parts for pre-gun alt mode Megatron.

I agree. In fact I have a love/hate relationship with Animated figures. I love them because they have lots of characters some of the other did not or will ever have version (damn you Hasbro for Animated-but-no-Classics Blitzwing), but I hate because I cannot, for the life of me, think of a way to modify them to look less Animated. I thought maybe simply carving or maybe adding sculpting details might work but no luck(Shadowblade Megatron does remind of that IDW designed Megatron 2.0)

Only thing I could think of would be to slice em up and patch them back together with some elite styrene work.
