I was just thinking about this for some reason when I was out buying model paint tonight, do you think they will go with the "It looks enough like a Beetle to know what it is but different enough to keep from getting sued" or do you think he will be something completely different?

My best bet, something akin to Pretender Bumblebee, like the VW Bettle but buffer and altered enough to keep lawsuits off.

I just hope that they don't try to pass off a red repaint as Cliffjumper.

I'd bet on the "Beetle but not quite" approach too, if Astrotrain is anything to go by.

You know, the original Beetle is such an old design that it can probably be freely copied,
so perhaps he will be that. It might also be neat to go with the 'economy car' theme
and make him a Toyota Prius or a Honda Insight, or a Smart car.

I see it being more of a Prius or some small hybrid car myself...

The name was included in a line assortment list posted by Cybertronian Enquirer a few months back.

Since Cybertronian Enquirer's wave listings have so far been terribly accurate, and the same list that included "Bumblebee" also had "Astrotrain", who has since been confirmed by the prototype we saw, it's pretty safe to assume that Bumblebee will indeed be part of the "Classics" line.

MV75 means "totally awesome in appearance but
in no way a spiritual descendant of the original Mini
which was a revolutionary car when it first came out,
whereas the new Mini is nothing but a retro-consumerist
novelty car that under its bodywork is the same as
every other FWD clone car on the road"

    Whew.

Hey, the new mini was the first car to have drive by wire controls. Granted, it's still a huge retro-consumerist novelty, but HELLO, we're transformer fans. Notice any similarities? We'll probably just get some cute little futuristic economy car.

Really, I bet Bumblebee will be one of the new bugs with swastickas all over him. :thumbs2:

    :lol  :lol  :confused2

That's a little twisted...Maybe VW will change its mind, especially with a live action movie coming out and seeing what kind of character BB is...don't know could happen?

I'm pretty sure that they're going to go with the "looks like a certain car, but not enough to get sued" approach, but I really gotta wonder if that car it'll kinda resemble will be a beetle or something totally different.

My only thought is HOW would they go the 'Beetle...but not' route? That's one of the most distinctive cars ever manufactured, if not THE most distinctive. With VW being as adamant as they are about the beetle not being used in TFs now, I would be surprised if they didn't take action if Hasbro did that.

They could get away with making Crosswise "almost" a Bugatti Veyron, Red Alert "almost" a Dodge Magnum and Hot Shot "almost" a Chrysler ME412.

Well I know that...all I'm saying it it's a little hard to make "almost" a beetle.
