They could explain Devastator as a title among Decepticons awarded to veteran soldiers with thousands of enemy kills to their name, the kind of warrior who when they appear on the battlefield are known simply by their reputation as a Devastator. Or Brawl could have admired the "real" Devastator so much he adopted the name as his own callsign.
I'd like him to be as far away from Hollywood as possible since he's not even a decent director, and has no place begging for work there. Ok maybe that last part was a little too cruel, but I'm really not a fan. =D
Well, maybe when ROTF comes out, they'll release Transformers 1.5 or something like they did with X-Men back in the day, and correct the tank's name to Brawl. They need to do something, because it's going to confuse alot of people. And, whoever made the Frankenbot comment? I reeeeally hope this is not the "fallen" looking for revenge.
How about Slag? No one's using that name at the moment. It'll be Devastator. Just imagine the crying if it's anything different. Besides, if it's in USAToday, it HAS to be the truth. Doesn't it? Well? Also, Megatron and Starscream were the only Decepticons in the first movie that were called by name. The rest had to introduce themselves. Who cares what Brawl's name was for the whole three seconds it was on the screen. Compared to other glitches and inconsistencies, it isn't THAT big a deal.
Sergeant Motorboat. But yeah, Devastator. Definitely. I ageee with Yaujta, his name was only on screen for a couple of seconds and he said it in Cybertronian! People that weren't TF fans to begin with won't even remember, and the TF fans know it was Brawl anyway. Then again, Bonecrusher is dead as well, so who knows what will happen namewise. (I bet he hates being replaced)
This is the best idea or speculation I have seen ever. And it would be smart to do so as it wouldn't miff fans as much or confused regular movies goers that pay attention to this kind of thing. But I feel I just contradicted myself seeing as how most of the movies goers are the fans...........

Michael Bay admitted ( If you saw the movie with his audio commentary ) That Brawl's "Devastator" Name was a screw up since he wasn't paying much attention to their on who was who !!! He constantly called Frenzy "Soundbyte" Until he learned what was his real name !! We expect he'll pay attention to the robots names this time !!
