I'm not talking about which toys are worth the most. I want to see what everyone thinks about which year produced the best set of toys all around. I've had or at least seen some toys from all of the box sets, but don't really know much before that. Seems like it might come down to 2007 vs. 2008?

It really is going to depend on personal preference, but I figure 2007 is going to be the most popular.

Shokaract, Tigatron, and Sentinel Maximus are pretty special to me, although the Beast Wars set from 2006 is probably my favorite all-around.

I'd like to see them get back to 2-3 mindblowingly awesome exclusives each year, rather than a dozen "ok" ones. I'd happily pay several hundred bucks for a fully-chromed-out ROTF Leader Prime or something with crazy-phenomenal paint apps.

2007 gave us Bug Bite. It wins automatically.

I have to say 2001, Transmetal Tigatron and Arcee. I remember how floored we all were to finally have an Arcee toy. Plus we got a Japanese exclusive mold (Ravage X-9) which is the first and only time that has happened I believe.

2001 (see Nmbr1Ldr's post for why) or 2006, with the Beast Wars characters. That was an absolutely amazing set.

2006. We finally get some Beast Wars characters in their Pre-Earth forms. Too bad I couldn't attend that year. Or any years before or following that year.

1997 Fractyl and Packrat. Great toys, beautiful colours, G1 boxart, Simon Furman comic in the middle of the only really long Furman drought.

    Brilliant

2007 stands out because of who the characters were (and controversy that courted) but not because the toys or the ideas behind them were especially amazing or clever. For me, it's definitely the BW characters from 2006. Some stonkingly clever figure choices with real imagination and intelligence behind 'em.

2007 for me with 2006 a close second.

Obvious I know but it's an honest answer.

2007 was the set everyone wanted, if only to fill out a Classics collection. For concept, I'd go with the 2006 pre-BW Maximals (and extras)

If it was down to individual items, a few of my faves are 2001 Tigatron, Sentinel Maximus, 2009 Razorclaw, 2005 Ironhide & Ratchet, and one or two others I forget right now. :)

Easily '07. Only box set I've shelled out the $$$$ for. I would REALLY like to get the '06 Beast Wars one though.

I have to give a small shoutout to the handful of the conventionn extras I've been able to pick up that are fun though as well...

    Glyph (02)
    Tap-Out (02)
    Rook (02)
    Shadow Striker & Roulette (03)
    Razorclaw (09)
    Elita-1 (09)
    Banzaitron (09)
    Skyquake (09)

I finally bit the bullet and bought 07 Alpha Trion yesterday. I'm pretty excited for that one.

I'd have to go with the 2006 set, for the reasons that Chris McFeely listed.

Every set has had some excellent toy choices, though. 2007 had the Seekers of course, as well as Dreadwind (who I'm a fan of) and Alpha Trion, Weirdwolf, Huffer... nice selection of obscure characters, all well chosen and matched to the molds. 2008 has the mirrorverse characters, with a great design on Jazz, an awesome Rodimus, and a very cool Megatron. 2009 for me at least was a nice visit to some characters I'd owned the toys of originally, so it was great to get new renditions of them. Also, Banzai-Tron, and Elita-1. Both standout pieces.

In terms of concept, execution and overall design though, got to give it to 2006.

It'd definitely have to be the 2006 Pre-BW set. Yes, we got some kick-ass figures in the 2007 set (A3, Dreadwing, Huffer etc.) but the Botcon set that will always command high prices on the resale-market will be 2006's offerings - & for good reason too. :)
