I was going to get a takara tomy primus, but a friend already has a near complete primus from another line. We just aren't sure which one. What different primuses are there?

Unless I missed something, there's only 2. From the same mold. The Cyberton release, and then the new 2010 figure.

I would go with the new shiny one :D  There are only 2 versions, the Cybertron one and the new Takara one.
I sold my Primus from Cybertron and plan on getting mine soon!

There's also a lucky draw, it's a gold plated version of G1 Rodimus Prime. Cos apparently Rodimus is the reincarnation of Primus.

(incidentally, when I get the e-hobby shiny blue Rodimus, I'm using it as an Avatar/Manifestation of Primus)

In terms of fiction, there can be only one!

As a toy, the others are right: Cybertron, 2010 repaint (which is awesome), and the Lucky Draw thing (which is less awesome).

Well... if 3 is "many." 4 if you count packaging.

    Oh, and the Deluxe. 5.

    Do Robot Heroes count?

Actually 5. There was the green Lucky Draw, and the Cybertron deluxe tank version.

Then if you start adding non-transforming ones, then you've got the Robot Heroes, and I'm pretty sure there was a 3" Titanium. And a couple of statues/busts.
