It may have been posted before but I was wondering what Model Tractor was used for this version of Prime?

Oh I think I know this! I think Prime is a Peiterbilt. Pieterbilt. Something like that, I'm pretty sure I'm right. But I'm not sure on the spelling.

Yeah I think they used a Peterbilt for him but I'd like to know what Model of Pete they used.

From what I read it was an 80's Peterbilt 379 Longnose version.

There's a bit about Prime in this article, too. They took the Peterbilt logo off so they'd have less trouble marketing the toys.

Prime needed his trailer. And when we would transform, the trailer shoulda just flown off screen cutting through traffic until it eventually hits a building.

The Peterbilt 379 is the largest semi in North America, and is very popular among owner-operators for its customisability. Prime is EXTREMELY customised and rather 'ricery', but its not implausible to see a real truck that looks like him driving down a freeway due to the increasing popularity in customs.

I should note that the type of truck is called conventional or 'extended hood', not long nose.

The big silver thing on the back of the cabin is a headache rack - the production put that there just because it looked good, but in real life only trucks pulling flatbed trailers use those, as the headache rack is there to protect the driver just in case a load (such as steel beams or pipes) breaks loose during a sudden break, slides forward off the trailer and toward the cabin.

Thanks to David Hingtgen for educating me in trucks :D

Informative, to say the least. BTW, I called it a long nose due to the fact that it has a longer hood than a "normal" Pete 379.

    Very enlightening. Thanks!

I don't know that it would have been a good idea to include Prime's trailer. Cool, yes. A nod to the old cartoon, yes. Integral to the story or add anything more than 'a cool nod,' not really.

Well, Prime wouldn't have been able to do that hard drift u-turn if he had a trailer, and no doubt having a trailer would be cumbersome for the production, since the truck is already big.

His trailer should turn into a giant sword or something, that would be cool. >_>

The Tractor that Prime scanned should've had the old trailer with it. that would've been a nice tip of the hat to the old school.

I knew that a PeterBilt was used for the movie, My curiosity was which model it was. Thanks for the replies.

Too right. Wouldn't have looked good for the leader of the Autobots to suddenly jacknife in front of the military vehicles.

No kidding! I want to know who they found to pull off an e-brake turn on a 2 lane desert road in a customized monster of a semi and not even touch the shoulder. That little move impressed the hell out of me, to be honest.

Same here. You expect a move like that from the Solstice (Jazz) but Prime pulling off that manuever was some really tight ish! He held the drift for a while too.

One thing about the drift move is that it wasn't shown all in one shot so who knows how many different drifts they used to cut the final version.

I am sure the truck was modified especially for it.

I meant that was pretty fancy on OP's part.
