I have been out of collecting for quite some time and now I wanted to just look into some figures that interested me while trying to keep my collection on the small side.

Out of all the Prime/Convoy figures that have been released, there were two that stood out to me that I would be interested in getting: Generations/United Optimus Prime and Classics/Henkei Optimus Prime. I go to check the prices on these and I was pretty shocked at what EBay and other stores were asking for 2 figures that (from my understanding) weren't even exclusives?

Did I miss something while I was away from the scene all this time? Are they making shorter runs on figures?

This is kind of like a rant/wtf thread. :D

They are high in demand. Many people have multiples of each. I have Henkei / Classics versions of each CHUG figure. People love them.

If that's the case, I guess I will have to wait on reissues. [grumpy tone]

The asking price for a lot of Classics has gotten pretty ridiculous.

What sux is that I really enjoy the Takara paint work (at times), but the asking price is so ridiculous. Not to mention, paying $70+ for a "not so old" United figure that comes in card back packaging? Just odd to me.

Classics-styled figures are in constant demand and the USD to Yen exchange rate is really, really shitty right now. So TakaraTomy figures already start out twice as expensive as they used to be a couple years ago, and once they hit the secondary market... game over, man.

This hobby is expensive. I have spent at least $300k in the past year and a half.

I collect multiple lines of toys though.

I've been complaining about this a lot recently. It's absurd that figures only two years (or less) old are being sold for more than double their original price. To add to that rage, why do online retailers (BBTS, I'm looking at you) sometimes sell loose figures for more than what the MISC price is? It makes no sense, at all.

Ultimus, you probably spent some money on multiple items or some very rare figures I am assuming in that time. With that, I believe saying that this hobby is expensive still doesn't justify the fact that non exclusive figures that aren't that old are priced SO expensive.

I'm trying to start a conspiracy theory here. :lol

I started collecting Classics in 2010 after finding Hound, Prowl, and a couple others from 2008 in the back of a Target for $2 each. At that point, going back and trying to pick up figures from the previous two years was ridiculous. These toys started at $40 loose and went up from there.
