so, since everyone nowadays can buy stuff early on ebay, i wondered what people have...the only figure i've ever purchased in proto form was alternators tracks. i just had to have him, he's my favorite, and i got him done in yellow plastic, which was how he was supposed to come out before hasbro changed him to blue (due to see through plastic issues, supposedly, though mine doesnt have that issue at all, but whatever, blue is still better)

right now ive got him stored in my alt tracks red box, he looks nice and protected. its sweet....

so, what do you have? or what do you want too...

    -unpainted prototype Alt Jazz
    -unpainted prototype Alt Grimlock
-yellow Alt Tracks (no see through issue on mine either. I think it was just an excuse by Hasbro to make the more G1 looking blue)
-testshot Alt Windcharger (has not for "sale on it")
-might be another one but I don't remember.

I would kill to get a hardcopy.

Ratchet, Barricade, and Brawl. They ended up looking like the final releases though.

yeah, i too think it was just hasbro catering to fans...especially since we got 3 yellow alternators later....but whatever, the blue looks wicked...still wanna apply swerves stickers, or buy repro flame stickers, but at the same time, i dont....

Not sure if it counts, but I have a ton of prototypes/pre-production sculpts of Palisades TF statues. Some unpainted, some hand painted.

Can you explain the justification for paying 10-20 times what a figure will retail for...just because it's a prototype or isn't in the mass market yet? If it's something that is dramatically different or something that doesn't end up being released then maybe I can understand it. But, generally, these are unpainted toys or figures that will be released in a few months anyway.

Don't get me wrong here, I admire your dedication to the toys and I'm glad you're getting something that makes you happy, but it just seems a bit ridiculous to me.

eh, to each his own...i happened to buy a figure that never made it to retail...and thats cool...others like having the satisfaction of being the first to own it...its the same reason people get excited when they find a new toy at retail and come post here to let everyone know...and some people also have more expendable income to blow on stuff like that...some also buy something because its a favorite character (as i did) and i bet if they made a new classics tracks, and he was on ebay i'd be bidding to win him...

Yellow Alternator Tracks (no problem with being see thru on mine either)
G1 Octane - Chrome hands(see box art) and a slider joint to allow chest to shift forward. Someone posted a thread on how to modify the release version to do the same thing.
    G1 Galvatron - Head/helmet changed slightly
G1 Trypticon - Hand colored stickers and slightly different colors and a minor mold change
G1 Silverbolt - No factory applied stickers, different color gold chrome, minor mold change

Yep. BB and Starscream were $21 and $31, respectively (rounded to $10 because of sales tax) and Hot Shot was $20 (all prices are after shipping). I don't actually remember when I got it, but I'm sure there's something somewhere that says that I did. I'm thinking it was before Galaxy Force hit Japan because I remember starting a feedback thread for it (and I KNOW people here imported and started threads). Then I think it got pruned or something, but it was there.

All of mine were gifts from a friend. I don't think I would pay such high prices for them either. I do understand why some people get them though, particularly those that obviously look different from production ones (unpainted, different colors, "not for sale" stamp on it). These are limited collectibles for some people...sorta like exclusives. Many of these types of testshots and prototypes go for quite high now. As for people paying high prices for early production ones that look like final production ones, I guess they really either have money to burn or just want them earlier than everyone else (or both). I see alot of people buying the animated figures. Seems more so this line than any other. Probably for 3 reasons. One being that many more are available for sale early compared to previous lines and as such go for cheaper (some are only maybe $10 over what it would cost retail before shipping). Other reason is the time between when these early animated figs started showing on ebay to when the retail release date is is farther apart than previous lines it seems. So people are willing to pay a higher price to get it a few months sooner than most everyone else rather than a only month or two sooner than everyone else. And probably a 3rd reason is it seems right now there aren't much of anything to buy in terms of transformers. We mostly have repaints of movie figures and re-release of movie figures (with a couple of new molds thrown in). Plastic addicts need their fix :D

I have a BW TM2 Tigerhawk prototype, he is plain white, all the chrome areas are just plain silver chrome, wingtip missles are the same, but the springs are super strong. He looks nice and still one of my favs mold.

How many of these are there?

The seller actually had quite a few to sell. $31 shipped for a voyager which would cost $20 + tax at retail so is only about $5 over retail (not including shipping) so it's a pretty good deal. I got it along with Bulkhead for $31 which is another voyager.
