Just wondering on this. I know the movie Independence Day was refused or they just didn't ask on Area 51. But what others have been turned down?

I am pretty sure they didn't ask to film in Area 51, because they already knew the answer would of been NO.

Wasn't Independence Day filmed before Area 51 was acknowledged to actually exist?

I'm sure lots of places for various reasons. The most prevelant reason being the actual high cost to film in a particular city. New York being a prime example.

I'm pretty sure you'd be barred from filming a movie inside any restricted area such as a weapons storage bunker, nuclear power plant, or secure chamber of congress.

Hell, I'd be willing to bet the list of places that have told a filming crew "no, we don't want you filming here" is nearly endless.

Pretty much, when looking for a college to film Animal House, the producers were told "no" by multiple colleges across the country. Finding film locations is a lot harder than most people realize.

It's the Groom Lake airfield, actually. I'm in Vegas, and yes, I have hiked up the edge, and the signs are very explicit. Near as anyone can figure, and my own sightings of odd things in the sky (amusingly, some later turned out to have been F-117s) it's a proving ground for next-gen aircraft and other systems.

There are cameras at the perimeter...heck, read these descriptions. They are typical: Area 51 - Border Visit

They used to say "Use of deadly force authorized." Groom Lake Road

To my knowledge, no one was ever shot, but people have been picked up by those patrols you see in the pics. A friend of my uncle's also was motorbiking near the area and had a helicopter swing by his position for a few seconds.

The facility itself cannot be seen from the perimeter due to distance and terrain features, and that's how they apparently like it. I cannot imagine the kind of mongrel idiot that would even think to ask.

:lol  although I don't think I can really be "owned" when I was just asking if the Forbidden City was forbidden, not saying it was. :p

As for Hell, I'm pretty sure most of Sex in the City 2 was filmed there.

I doubt it, after all it's the only place Dragonball Evolution could have possibly been filmed...

I severely doubt anyone would be allowed to go film in Area 51. You get shot just for wandering too close to the fence.
Wasn't it more the military refused to provide vehicles and soldiers to use in the making of the film because of the Area 51 scenes? The film makers didn't want to remove the entire Area 51 element from the movie just to get a few free jets and tanks and guys in uniform so they just pulled in resources from other places and also had a load of CGI jets.

You mean Hell, Michigan? It's a pretty small place, true, and kind of a tourist town, but they seem to be pretty interested in having people film there, at least local news stations in winter for the "Hell Froze Over Haha" fluff stories.

Hell, Michigan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Or did you mean Hell, Norway? Someone probably filmed the Blues festival they've done by now, so I don't see why it would be so obvious they can't film there.

Hell, Nord-Tr√łndelag - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm sure you don't mean Hell, Grand Caymans, since with all the cruise ships and tourist traffic that goes through there, there's no shortage of cameras and home video souvenirs being filmed each season.

Hell, Grand Cayman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Same deal with Hell, California. Guvernator Schwarzenegger has really pushed to bring filming back to the state during his administration, so it'd be silly to mean that one.

Hell, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But if you meant one of the "Hell" places in Arizona, you'll have to be more specific, there's a bunch of them.

It used to be forbidden. But it hasn't been for about the past 90 years.

Anyway, has any film ever been filmed inside the Pentagon? There are loads of movies that feature it but I'm doubtful whether the real thing has ever been filmed in.

I know, but I meant "forbidden" in the context of this thread, as in "forbidden to film there". From what I understand they do have strict rules on filming and not just anyone is allowed to bring video cameras in.

I remember watching the Colbert Report and he mentioned that Sex and the City 2 couldn't actually film in Abu Dhabi because the film has 'sex' in the title. Instead all the Abu Dhabi scenes were filmed in Morocco.

EDIT: Here's a source on that.
