Are there any perks with a figure, like a gimmick, or point of articulation, that make you immediately want it?

The gimmicks I actually like are being a Headmasters, combining, not sucking, being a decent fembot, and, uh.... in the style of classics. Other than that, HasTak can keep their missiles, lights, sounds, etc.

Articulation-wise it'd be stuff like a cut waist and ankle tilts and little added details like articulated fingers. Luckily HasTak's been doing good on these.

Playability-wise I love transforming weapons and the 3-mm clip system. RtS Jazz's weapons are great examples. His rifle looks good both transformed and not transformed. I like it better folded up because it looks like a blocky laser pistol.

A clever, interesting, or complex transformation is an almost surefire way to get me to buy a toy. Best example of this that I can think of atm is Sidearm Sideswipe.

I agree. An interesting transformation, with articulation.
Spent 128 bucks on aveo swerve just for that reason, his legs that are awesome to transform.

Generations Scourge is the epitome of Perks I love. Interesting, well engineered transformation, ankle tilts, cut waist, turning wrists, ball jointed neck, transforming gun, and characterful mold.

Waist articulation, lack of weapons storage, and when a gimmick works on one toy,but not a later one.

Need moar headmasters. It's hard to single out one thing, though. My favorite two size classes are deluxe and MP. Deluxe is the perfect size for a quick fix and they're not too expensive if you can find what you're looking for at retail. MP's cause of their size, attention to detail, and all around awesomeness. I also like when a figure has a good weapon/s. Stuff like Blurr's sniper, WFC Megs' arm cannon, and Cyclonus' targetmaster. I also like the clip style weapons from hftd/generations/rts.

I like fold up weapons that can be stored on the Tf like Prowl and WFC Prime's guns.

Targetmasters and Headmasters are always cool.

Animal companions, especially when they become the bot's gun. Top Heavy was great, pity he was given to the crap Skyfall.

Transparent plastic eyes that light up properly like Henkei Megatron and G2 Skram and Zap. I hate when they're painted over. Dark purple doesn't work very well for them either.

Flip changers like Robotmasters Mirage and BW Terrorsaur. The instant transformation adds too the play value as it seems more fluid/natural.

Old style, G1 blocky animal molds applied to modern toys like Device label Tigatron and Robotmasters Victory Leo. G1 Snarl and Grimlock are perfect. Not too keen on BW, fleshy animal modes though I am fond of Universe Frostbite who would have made a nice update of Carnivac. BW Terrorsaur, Hydra, Robotmasters Optimus Primal and Lio Convoy get away with it though.

I'm a sucker for military altmodes. I love Hailstorm for his altmode, even though in robot mode he looks awful.

I like Cyber Keys. I also like transformation, articulation, swords, and cool powerups. Animal modes are good. And fire engines. Especially ones that fly. I also like jets. Two words: Dogfight, Airstrike.
