Yeah! One of my favorite planes ever since I was a kid. Always used to hunt for the P-38 version of those foam gliders with the plastic propellers.

Highbrow is only an approximation of a P-38, like Mindwipe is of a F-117. He doesn't really do the P-38 justice.

this, the wings are too short to be a perfect representation, but it looks pretty close

Also the cockpit is crazy far back, according to whoever added it to his TFWiki "Highbrow transforms into a World War II-era fighter resembling a cross between a P-38 Lightning and an XF5U 'Flying Flapjack'".

I personally don't see any of the Flapjack, myself.

I'd love to see a P-51 Mustang 'former.

Or a little Komet, sort of like Skystalker the ROTF scout.

The plane mode for Highbrow is one of the main reason I bought the figure. I love the P38 and I think Highbrow is and will be the closest we'll ever get to it in a TF. They've definately taken some creative liscence on it but I think it works really well. More older style planes like this would be great, imo. Jets are cool and all but there are so many TF jets by now, it's great to see something different.

I think the best Transformer airplanes are Skywarp, Thundercracker and Starscream. Except for their bellies, they represent the F-15 Eagles very well. All other's after are of some modifications or far-off designs.
Also, isn't there a Gobot that has this alt-mode as well?

As a reformed plane nerd Highbrow's alt mode is too far removed from a P-38 for my liking.

The Lightning is fricking awesome. Highbrow is clearly a very liberal interpretation of it, almost reminds me of Crimson Skies or Sky Captain. I still think he's quite cool...a bunch of Transformers of reasonably accurate WWII planes would blow my mind, but that's probably a bit too hyper-geeky.

Someone said they would like other WW2 airplanes and I have to agree, namely I would love to see the following albeit with slightly different looks like Highbrow is,but these are some of my faves.

    F4U Corsair
    B17 Flying Fortress
    P51 Mustang
and a Japanese Zero (thought kinda fitting)

I love the fact that the Highbrow toy takes its concept from the P-38. it's definitely been changed up quite a bit--in a "Crimson Skies," alt-reality warbird sort of way. But he really is awesome. And guns everywhere!

I plan to take some wings off something else (toy, model kit, whatever looks best) and modding them into the current wings that come off the engines (and his hips in bot mode) to make them longer. It'll definitely improve his look, though I don't know what I'll use to match his pain scheme.

He's an awesome figure, I just wish the wings were longer.

The F4U has already been done in G2. :)  Although maybe you meant you wanted to see those planes done in the movie style?

    Image:G2-toy Ransack.jpg - Transformers Wiki

I like how his arms turn into drop tanks, so that there's no kibble in the aircraft mode. :thumbs2:  They did the same thing with G2 Terradive's legs, which is funny because he's a different kind of "Corsair".

I really thought I'd seen a plane somewhere much closer to highbrow than to the p-38, but after days of searching I've had absolutely no luck tracking it down.

    He's not a P-38, he's an amalgam of a P-38 and a P-51D. He is still the shiz!

I don't like the intake/ram channel on his canopy/cockpit middle fuselage, it makes no sense at all as there are intakes on each prop.

But screw it! Give us more awesome WWII warplanes! Even if they are hybrid of popular fighters...
