Since the G1 cartoon started a lot (it's two words people) of concepts have grown to be core to the Transformers mythology. Primus, The Great Upgrade, Sparks, the All Spark, and recently Dark Energon just to name a few.

So I'm curious. What is your favorite thing that has been added to the mythology since the G1 cartoon ended?

For me, I'm giddy about Sparks. I love them. They separate Cybertronians from mere robots and give them something that makes them believably alive. I also love how it ties into their religion with "Until all are one!". To me it's a fantastic addition and I thank Beast Wars for that concept.

I'm with you with the Sparks. It gave Transformers, for lack of a better term, souls and not just robots with programmed character traits. I think my favorite addition would be [GASP] Beast Machines with the notion that Cybertron was once an organic planet turned into a factory of sorts. I don't know why I really like that exactly, I guess it just added to the mystique of the universe.

One reply in and already the thread is ruined... :p

Just kidding, but I respectfully disagree with your opinion Shibamura.

I like that the G1 timeline (but not era) technically continued from BW onto BM.

Sparks for me too, though it can confuse things a bit for where the brain/CPU/technology ends and the Spark begins with regards to someone's personality and memories. It's also one of a very very few added concepts that has carried over and/or retconned to pretty much every incarnation of Transformers fiction.

Unicron and Primus as metabeings/transformer gods. I really liked the depth it gave their race as opposed to just "they're robots and they overthrew their creators like every other robot race".

On the Unicron/Primus thing, I've said it before but I prefer them to be more metaphysical like real world religions. I love Unicron being a physical entity but I don't want him to ever claim to be a god and to never mention fighting Primus. I just want to believe that ancient Cybertronians heard/encountered Unicron and came to worship him as their Satan. I never want Primus to confirm his existence either.

But, yes, giving the Transformers a religion is up there on my list too.

I also like the additions of Sparks-They can think and feel, they also feel hatred against their enemies.

Sparks for me too! I agree it sets them apart from mere robots since they have "souls"

The Laser Cores in G1, I always thought of as the holders of the Sparks. The Spark is what seperates a Transformer from a mere robot, even a transforming robot. Anyway, when I saw the title of this thread I thought it was about 3rd Party products.

The Allspark concept is certainly one of my favorites because it gives an ultimate life creating way that ISN'T squid people.

Sparks, and Primus/Unicron. They gave Transformers as a whole so much more depth.
I liked how they fused elements from both comic and cartoon into the continuity.

I may be in the minority on this, but I like the addition of mythologies to the mythology. While there's a part of me who would like one continuity, I really enjoy the aspect of Transformers being a multi-verse.
