Madou King Granzort for me. Apart from the mecha designs the story just did not work for me. I know its a show for a younger audience but I enjoyed Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru 2 and I think that was aimed at the same audience.

If we are talking about Seed Destiny, then it sure is a contender. But G Gundam more than makes up for its fail.

And I fucking love Big O.

Don't get me wrong, but I like Gundam. You're right about SEED Destiny (which I like to call Garbage WEED Destiny. I did enjoy SEED though), but I find Gundam 00 better, IMO. And I like what I've seen so far of G Gundam.

Gundam 00 is totally a vast improvement. Gundam as a whole is awesome, which just causes Seed Destiny to stand out for being so bad.

    Hmmm, tough call.

I wasn't so fond of Godannar or Gravion, because the mecha seemed to take a distant second place to fanservice. A very distant second, and Gravion in particular suffered for it. Though the mecha designs were cool.

Escaflowne was a series I could never get into, either, though I confess it has a lot of good points to the right audience, so that is definitely not the worst.

For all the hype, I didn't care much for Evangelion once it started going with the whole mindfuck and philosophy, and I didn't like Shinji at all. Pretty much exactly what I don't want in a main character.

Linebarrels of Iron, in the same vein as Eva, is equally pretty weak. The main character is annoying as hell, the mecha lack a certain flair for the most part, and the rest of the cast don't have a lot going for them. The main characters are all either really wimpy or totally full of themselves, or both. And it doesn't have some of the redeeming features of Eva, either, and it's retreading the whole "deconstruction of the grandeur of being a robot pilot" thing that Eva did first without really doing it any better or worse.

Now, I love Big O, so I'd hardly call that the worst though I can see why people might dislike it. Gundam has so many series that you'd have to be more specific because they're all so different. Some are great, others not so much. Some are real love it or hate it deals like X, others are just under par like SEED Destiny. It's much like the many Transformers shows, each iteration is different and each has its own good and bad points.

Gravion I am not a fan of, but I loved Godannar, because I knew what I was going to get going into it. Gravion I wasn't a fan of, and Evangalion I'm pretty neutral on. It had its really cool parts, but it also had too many WTF moments.

Macross is pure and utter crap.

Haha! I lied so that I could trick you! :lolol

I rather liked Big-O. It had so much great potential, it just didn't get enough love.

As for the worst Mecha-themed series, well I think 'Saber Rider and the Star sherriffs' (if it counts) could be considered in contention of owning that title. As a stand-alone series, it was pretty decent. But compared to a lot of other stuff like most Gundams, Eureka Seven, Macross, Robotech, and a few others, it pales.

Probably Linebarrels right now even though the mecha designs themselves are great.

    Macross Frontier :p

Hmm Jinki Extend is also one of the shittiest mecha animes I've ever seen.

I'm going to say the original Gundam was pretty bad. The pacing was just horrible, and it got way too metaphysical for a war anime near the end. Strangely some of the spinoffs that play the war angle straight I do enjoy. 08th MSteam and Gundam Wing are both good. And G Gundam is also fun though in a different way. Seed is emo crap that's trying to be Gundam Wing, and 00 is emo crap trying to be seed trying to be wing. Both fail miserably. Stop trying to make Wing again. You got it right the first time.

Outside of Gundam, I agree that Gravion Zwei took way too long to get to the robots, some episodes not even having robots. It's not that I mind a little fanservice but really, if I want porn I can find it on the internet. I want ROBOTS.

Blue Gender. It again failed to deliver on the mechs. But that was more of a metaphysical "humans are evil" anime with a mech on the DVD cover than anything else.

I've never gotten into any of the Gundam series. It doesn't help that I'm turned off from the get go that they've been milking the same robot design for thirty years. And, people talk about all the Optimus Primes looking too much alike.... G Gundam is kind of entertaining, in a "turn your brain off first" sort of way. War in a Pocket = wost ending, evar.

Great Dangaioh still ranks as the worst anime I've ever seen. The ending is only slightly less bad, than Gundam: War in a Pocket.

Can't stand Macross Plus, either. The character and mech designs are terrible, but the back story between the main characters is just stupid.

I never liked Gundam in any of it's incarnations.

I did like Big O though, and I LOVE Golion (Japanese uncut Voltron)

Evangelion. Hell, three quarters of the show is just one giant mental rape session.

Too many robot-based animes to mention. But they all have one flaw: barely any robots. Mostly due to the fact that the robots are always piloted by 13 year-olds, and never sentient.

But yeah, Big-O and Everangutangelion or whatever it's called. (were those even robots? Looked like gaint alien, yet clearly organic, things)

Are we allowed to say Transformers? Because the Unicron trilogy was the worst shit ever.
