    what is the negative term for someone who tends to buy up rare toys in hopes of selling them for a profit?

    "Flipping" is also a decent term -- buying in order to resell. Though I have only heard it with real estate, I'm sure it could be applied to robo-men.

    By my definition, buying with the intent of re-selling at some point in the future is investing, or maybe even just collecting.

    Buying ALL of a single type of toy (specifically one that is tipped to be "hot") over a single area to artificially create demand, and then re-selling the toys to people you pretend to identify with, at over-the-top prices. THAT is scalping.
